They mainly feed on schools of mackerel, sardines, and similar baitfish, so they'll hit our big baits thinking it's an easy meal. The key with threshers is using strong hooks since they have relatively small mouths for their size. Also, when you see bait schools getting worked on the surface, there's often a thresher underneath using that tail to stun fish.
