Lake Texoma Striper & Catfish Combo
When you're looking for consistent action and variety in one trip, this 6-hour combo on Lake Texoma delivers exactly what serious anglers want. Starting at 7:00 AM, we'll hit the water when conditions are prime for Striped Bass, then transition to targeting some of the lake's legendary Catfish once we've filled our striper quota. This seasonal offering runs October through December when both species are most active, giving you the best shot at a full cooler and some solid fights on the rod.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day kicks off early with coffee still steaming and the lake surface calm as glass. We'll spend the first half focusing entirely on Striped Bass using techniques that have proven successful season after season on Texoma's main lake and creek channels. Once we've hit our striper limit – and trust me, we're going after that limit hard – we'll shift gears completely and start working the bottom structure for Channel, Blue, and Flathead Catfish. The boat handles up to 2 guests comfortably, so you'll have plenty of room to fight fish and move around. All your rods, reels, and tackle come with the trip, and I'll adjust our approach based on what the fish are telling us that particular day. Available Monday through Thursday only, this trip gives you a chance to experience two completely different fishing styles in one solid day on the water.
Techniques & Tackle
Striper fishing on Texoma means we're working with downriggers, planer boards, and live bait depending on where the schools are holding. Early morning, we'll typically start with topwater action if the fish are shallow, then move to deeper presentations as the sun climbs. For the catfish portion, we switch to completely different gear – heavy rods, circle hooks, and cut bait or live offerings that these bottom dwellers can't resist. I've got rod setups for both light tackle striper action and the heavy gear you'll want when a big flathead decides to take your bait back to its lair. The transition between techniques keeps things interesting and teaches you versatility that'll make you a better angler on any water. Your catch gets cleaned and bagged at the end, so you're heading home with fillets ready for the freezer or dinner table.
Top Catches This Season
Striped Bass on Lake Texoma are the stuff of legend, and for good reason. These silver bullets typically run 3-8 pounds during our season, with occasional bruisers pushing double digits. October through December is prime time because the water's cooling down and baitfish are schooling tight, making stripers predictable and aggressive. They'll hit everything from live shad to umbrella rigs, and when you hook into a school, the action can be non-stop for twenty minutes. What makes striper fishing so addictive is their fight – they'll make multiple runs, jump clear of the water, and test every knot on your rig.
Channel Catfish are the bread and butter of Texoma's catfish population, running 2-5 pounds on average with plenty of keeper-sized fish to keep your rod bent. They're active year-round but really turn on during our season when water temperatures stabilize. These fish aren't picky eaters, but they do have preferences based on current and structure. Blue Catfish are the heavy hitters, often reaching 10-20 pounds and providing the kind of fight that'll have your arms burning. They prefer deeper water and stronger current, making them a technical challenge that rewards patience and proper presentation.
Flathead Catfish are the true monsters lurking in Texoma's depths. These ambush predators can exceed 30 pounds and provide some of the most memorable fights you'll experience in freshwater. They're structure-oriented and prefer live bait, making each hookup feel like you've snagged the bottom until that head starts shaking. Flatheads are less common than channels or blues, but when you connect with one, it's the kind of fish story that gets better every time you tell it.
