Inshore SeaBass Fishing at Belmar
Looking for a solid day of sea bass fishing without the long haul offshore? Our inshore sea bass trips out of Belmar Manutti Marina give you everything you need for a productive day on the water. We're talking quality fish, modern gear, and the kind of spot-lock technology that keeps you right where the fish are feeding. Whether you're a weekend warrior or just getting your feet wet, this trip delivers the goods without breaking the bank or burning a whole tank of gas getting there.
What to Expect on the Water
We launch right from Belmar Manutti Marina on Route 35, which puts us in prime sea bass territory faster than you can tie a high-low rig. The beauty of inshore fishing here is that we're not burning hours getting to the fishing grounds – we're talking 15 to 20 minutes max before lines are in the water. Our boat's equipped with state-of-the-art spot lock trolling motor technology, which means once we find a productive piece of structure or a school of fish, we stay put. No more drifting off the sweet spot just when the bite heats up. The captain handles all the boat positioning while you focus on what matters – getting fish in the cooler. All your gear and bait comes included, so you can travel light. We provide everything from rods and reels to sinkers and hooks, plus fresh bait that sea bass can't resist. The boat comfortably handles up to six anglers, giving everyone plenty of elbow room to work their lines without getting tangled up with the guy next to you.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
Inshore sea bass fishing is all about finding the right structure and presenting your bait where these fish like to hang out. We fish predominantly with bottom rigs – high-low setups work great because they let you cover two different levels of the water column. The spot lock system is a game changer here because sea bass are structure-oriented fish. They love wrecks, reefs, rocks, and drop-offs, and once you find them, you want to stay right on top of that spot. Traditional drift fishing means you're constantly moving off productive areas, but with spot lock, we can hold position exactly where the fish are biting. We typically use circle hooks to keep the fish hooked solid and make releasing shorts easier on the fish. Squid and clams are go-to baits, though sea bass aren't particularly picky eaters. The key is keeping your bait on the bottom where these fish feed. The captain will help you adjust your sinker weight based on current and depth – usually anywhere from 2 to 6 ounces depending on conditions. Don't worry if you've never used this setup before; we'll get you dialed in quickly. The learning curve isn't steep, and sea bass are aggressive enough that you'll know when you've got one.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Sea bass are the perfect inshore target species, and here's why local anglers can't get enough of them. These fish are scrappy fighters that punch way above their weight class – a two-pound sea bass will bend your rod and give you a legitimate battle on medium tackle. They're also some of the best eating fish in these waters, with firm white meat that's perfect for everything from fish tacos to beer batter. Sea bass are structure lovers, which makes them predictable to target once you understand their behavior. They hang around rocks, reefs, wrecks, and any hard bottom where they can ambush prey. Spring through fall is prime time, with May through October offering the most consistent action. During summer months, they're in shallower water, making them perfect for these inshore trips. What makes sea bass so appealing to anglers is their willingness to bite – they're not overly finicky like some species. When you find a school, it's not uncommon to have multiple hookups at once. The minimum size limit keeps the fishery healthy, and keepers typically range from 12 inches up to 18 inches or more. Bigger fish – we call them "humpbacks" – show up regularly and can really make your day. These fish also school up, so when you find one, there are usually more in the area. That's where our spot lock technology really shines, keeping you positioned over productive water instead of drifting away from the action.
