Sciaenops OcellatusRedfish are the crown jewel of our inshore fishing, with that distinctive copper color and black spot near the tail. Most run 20-35 inches here, but we see plenty of bull reds pushing 40+ inches and 30 pounds. They cruise super shallow water - sometimes with their backs showing - around grass flats, oyster reefs, and marsh edges. Year-round fishing is good, but fall brings the best action when they school up. What guests love is their aggressive strikes and powerful runs that'll test your drag. They're also great eating in the slot size. The trick in our shallow water is staying quiet and making long casts ahead of cruising fish. Topwater lures at first light are deadly, but gold spoons work all day long.
Salmo TruttaSpeckled Trout are one of our most consistent inshore targets, typically running 14-24 inches and 1-5 pounds in these waters. They love grass flats and shallow bays, especially around dawn and dusk when they're actively feeding on shrimp and small baitfish. Look for them in 2-6 feet of water over sandy bottoms with good grass coverage. They bite year-round here, but spring and fall offer the hottest action. What makes them special is their delicate fight and excellent eating quality - white, flaky meat that's perfect for the dinner table. Local trick: work topwater plugs early morning over grass beds, then switch to soft plastics as the sun gets higher. The key is keeping your bait moving but not too fast.
