Half Day Family Fishing on Madeira Beach
Captain Kyle's 4-hour reef fishing adventure puts you right where the fish are biting, just 5-9 miles off Madeira Beach. This top-rated family charter delivers steady action on productive reefs that locals have been working for generations. With room for up to 6 anglers and gear for everyone, it's perfect for mixing experienced hands with first-timers. The crew knows how to keep kids engaged while giving adults the fishing they're after - no easy task, but Captain Kyle makes it look natural.
What to Expect on the Water
You'll motor out to proven reef structures where Snapper, Grouper, and Pompano stack up year-round. The ride's short enough that nobody gets seasick, but far enough to hit the good stuff. Captain Kyle's been running these waters since he was in middle school, so he knows every bump and hole that holds fish. The boat's spacious enough for families to spread out, and the crew's got patience for teaching proper techniques. Between the steady bites and Captain Kyle's wildlife knowledge, there's always something happening. He'll point out dolphins, sea turtles, and feeding birds while sharing stories about the gulf that only a true local would know.
Bottom Fishing & Reef Tactics
This trip focuses on bottom fishing over hard structure where reef fish congregate. You'll drop baited hooks down to depths between 30-60 feet, targeting fish that live around rocks, ledges, and artificial reefs. Captain Kyle provides all the tackle - medium-heavy spinning rods paired with circle hooks and enough weight to reach bottom in the current. Fresh bait makes the difference, and he's got the good stuff that triggers bites. The technique's straightforward enough for kids but effective enough to put dinner in the cooler. When the bite slows on one spot, Captain Kyle moves to the next proven producer. His decades of local knowledge mean he's always got a backup plan.

Species You'll Want to Hook
Cobia are the bruisers of this fishery, growing up to 50 pounds and fighting like freight trains. These brown sharks with attitude show up around structure from spring through fall, often following rays and sharks near the surface. When you hook into a Cobia, expect a long, powerful run that'll test your drag and your arms. They're curious fish that sometimes swim right up to the boat, giving Captain Kyle chances to sight-cast with live bait. The meat's white, firm, and tastes like a cross between mahi and shark - absolutely worth the fight.
Red Snapper remain the bread and butter of gulf reef fishing, even with regulations limiting seasons and sizes. These pink and red beauties live around hard bottom from 20 feet to over 100, feeding on crabs, shrimp, and small fish. A quality Red Snapper runs 3-8 pounds, with occasional giants pushing 15-20 pounds. They're smart fish with excellent eyesight, so Captain Kyle uses light leaders and fresh bait to fool them. When the Red Snapper bite is on, you can limit out quickly - but they're just as likely to shut down without warning.
Black Grouper are the heavyweights hiding in rocky caves and ledges, ambushing anything that swims by. These spotted giants can reach 40 pounds, though most caught run 5-15 pounds. They hit hard and immediately try to drag your bait back to their hole, so you need to muscle them up fast. Black Grouper have seasons and size limits that change yearly, but when they're legal, they're among the best eating fish in the gulf. Their flaky white meat works for everything from grilling to fish tacos.
Spanish Mackerel bring the speed and numbers when they're running thick. These silver bullets with yellow spots rarely exceed 3 pounds, but they make up for size with aggressive strikes and lightning-fast runs. They travel in schools, so when you find one, there are usually dozens more nearby. Spanish Mackerel hit small jigs, spoons, and live bait with equal enthusiasm. Kids love them because they bite readily and put up a scrappy fight on light tackle. They're also excellent smoked or made into fish dip.
Florida Pompano are the premium catch for their size, pound-for-pound one of the best eating fish in Florida waters
