Multi Day Sport Fishing Charters
When one day on Campbell River just isn't enough, our multi-day fishing charters give you the kind of deep-water experience that serious anglers dream about. We're talking 2 to 5 full days chasing salmon across some of the most productive waters on the West Coast, with each day bringing new opportunities as tides shift and fish move through their feeding patterns. You'll be fishing from a fully rigged Boston Whaler with top-rated gear, working different spots based on what the fish are telling us each morning. This isn't your typical weekend charter – it's a proper fishing adventure designed for anglers who want to maximize their time on the water and really dial in on trophy Chinook and Coho salmon.
What to Expect on the Water
Campbell River sits right in the heart of some of the best salmon fishing on Vancouver Island, and a multi-day charter lets us really work these waters properly. Each morning starts with checking conditions, tides, and recent reports to plan our strategy for the day. We'll hit different spots based on what's happening – maybe the Hump one day when the Chinook are staging, then swing over to April Point or the Bell Buoy area when the Coho start moving through. The beauty of multiple days is that we can adapt and follow the fish instead of being locked into one area. Between the four of you on board, there's plenty of room to spread out and work different techniques at the same time. We keep detailed logs of what's working each day, so by day three or four, you'll have a real sense of the patterns and feel like you're reading these waters like a local.
Techniques and Tackle Setup
We run a variety of proven salmon techniques depending on conditions and what species we're targeting. Trolling with downriggers is our bread and butter – we'll have multiple lines out at different depths, working spoons, plugs, and cut herring through the strike zones. When we mark fish on the sounder, we might switch to mooching with fresh bait, letting that herring work naturally in the current. The Boston Whaler is set up with quality Penn and Shimano reels, Lamiglas and G.Loomis rods, and all the terminal tackle you'll need. We carry a full selection of proven Campbell River lures – Coyote spoons, Gibbs Delta flashers, and the local hot colors that have been producing. If you've got your own gear and want to use it, that's fine too, but everything's provided and ready to fish. Part of the multi-day experience is learning different presentations and really understanding how to read your rod tip and feel when something's happening down there.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Chinook salmon are the main prize in Campbell River, and these aren't your average kings. We're talking about fish that have been feeding in the rich waters around Vancouver Island, building up size and strength before their spawning runs. A typical Campbell River Chinook runs 15 to 25 pounds, but we see plenty of 30-pounders and the occasional tyee over 30. They fight deep and strong, using their weight and the current against you. Best fishing for Chinook happens during the summer months from June through September, with peak action usually in July and August. What makes them so special here is how they feed – they're actively hunting herring and needlefish in the tide lines, making them aggressive and willing to hit a well-presented lure. The multi-day format gives you multiple shots at that fish of a lifetime.
Coho salmon bring a completely different energy to the boat. These silver rockets are built for speed and acrobatics, and when a Coho takes your line, you know it immediately. They'll jump, run, and generally put on a show that keeps everyone watching. Campbell River Coho typically run 8 to 12 pounds, but don't let the smaller size fool you – pound for pound, they're some of the hardest fighting salmon you'll encounter. They move through these waters from July into October, with September often being prime time. Coho like to feed higher in the water column, especially early morning and late afternoon, and they'll hit everything from small spoons to flies behind flashers. The visual strikes are incredible when they come up and smash a surface lure.
Time to Book Your Spot
A multi-day charter is the kind of fishing trip that creates stories you'll be telling for years. Instead of rushing through one day trying to figure out the water, you get to really settle in, learn the area, and fish like you belong here. By the end of your trip, you'll understand why Campbell River has such a reputation among salmon anglers. The combination of world-class fishing, professional guiding, and quality equipment makes this a customer favorite for serious anglers and groups looking to make the most of their time on Vancouver Island. We typically book these multi-day trips well in advance, especially for peak summer dates, so reach out early to secure your dates. Whether you're planning a guys' trip, celebrating an anniversary, or just want to fish at a pace that lets you really appreciate what these waters have to offer, this is how you do Campbell River right.
