6 Hour New Jersey Inshore Fishing Adventure
Ready to get your lines wet in some of the East Coast's most productive fishing waters? Our 6-hour New Jersey inshore trip puts you right in the heart of the action, where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic and fish are stacked up year-round. With Flyin' Hawaiian Charters, you're not just booking a fishing trip – you're signing up for a day where every cast could be the one that makes you grin from ear to ear. We keep our groups small at just 4 anglers max, so you'll get personalized attention and prime fishing spots without the elbow-to-elbow chaos of those cattle boat operations.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical "throw a line and hope" kind of day. We're targeting the prime inshore structures where New Jersey's best gamefish love to hang out – from the shallow flats where flounder cruise for baitfish to the deeper channels where stripers ambush schools of bunker. The trip kicks off early when the fish are most active, and we'll move between spots based on tides, weather, and where the bite is hottest that day. You'll be fishing in anywhere from 8 to 40 feet of water, close enough to shore that you can still see the landmarks but far enough out to get into some serious fish. The boat rides smooth, the company's good, and when that rod tip starts dancing, you'll know why anglers drive hours just to fish these waters.
Gear Setup & Fishing Methods
We've got you completely dialed in with top-shelf Penn and Shimano combos that can handle everything from delicate fluke presentations to pulling hard-fighting stripers off structure. Depending on what's biting, we'll be using everything from light spinning tackle with bucktails and Gulp baits for flounder to heavier conventional setups with live bait for the bigger bass and blues. Don't worry about bringing anything – rods, reels, terminal tackle, bait, and even your fishing license are all covered. We carry a full spread of jigs, sinkers, hooks, and fresh bait that we know produces in these waters. Whether we're drifting over sandy bottom for fluke, anchoring up on a productive wreck, or working the edges of grass beds for weakfish, we'll put the right setup in your hands and show you exactly how to work it.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Southern Flounder are the bread and butter of our summer trips, and these flatfish know how to put up a fight once you get them off the bottom. They typically run 16 to 24 inches in our waters, with the occasional doormat pushing 6 pounds or better. Best action happens during moving tides when they're actively feeding on the flats. What makes flounder so addictive is that subtle tap-tap-tap bite – you've got to feel for it, set the hook at just the right moment, and then enjoy watching that flat, silver fish come up through the water column.
Bluefish are pure aggression on a hook, and when they're around, you'll know it. These toothy predators average 3 to 8 pounds in our area and hit baits like they're trying to destroy them. Summer through fall is prime time, especially when bunker schools move through. Blues fight dirty – they'll make screaming runs, jump, and thrash at the boat. Just be ready for those razor-sharp teeth when we bring them aboard.
Summer Flounder, or fluke as we call them locally, are the crown jewel of our inshore fishing. These fish can grow huge in New Jersey waters – we see plenty of 3 to 5 pounders with the occasional 8-pound plus fish that'll make your arms ache. They're most active from late spring through early fall, and they're masters of camouflage on sandy bottom. The key is keeping your bait moving just off the bottom where they can see it but can't inspect it too closely.
Striped Bass are what legends are made of around here. Our resident population offers excellent fishing for school-sized fish in the 18 to 28 inch range, while the spring and fall migrations bring through some true giants. These fish are smart, strong, and absolutely beautiful. They'll test your drag on long runs and know every piece of structure in the bay. Catching stripers consistently takes skill, but when you connect with a good one, you'll understand why they're called the ultimate gamefish.
White Weakfish are making a comeback in New Jersey waters, and they're a blast to catch on light tackle. These silvery fighters average 2 to 4 pounds and have a soft mouth that earned them their name – you've got to play them carefully or they'll throw the hook. They're most active in the evening hours and love grass beds and deeper channels. When you find a school of weakfish, the action can be fast and furious.
