Whether you're a weekend warrior or bringing the whole family out for their first taste of serious freshwater fishing, we've got you covered with both trolling and casting options. The clock starts when we leave the dock, and we'll keep working until we hit limits or the 3 hours are up – whichever comes first. And hey, if you want to upgrade to the "Executive" package starting in 2026, we'll have a full menu of food, drinks, and snacks available for an extra $350 (we'll even let you bring up to 2 cases of beer). Fish cleaning is part of the deal, so you can head home with fillets ready for the pan.
What to Expect on the Water
Lake Erie's western basin is where the magic happens, and we know exactly where to find these fish based on the season, weather, and what's been producing lately. If you're going after walleye, we've got two approaches depending on what you're in the mood for. Trolling trips can accommodate up to 6 anglers and let us cover more water systematically – perfect for consistent action and teaching newcomers the ropes. Casting trips are limited to 4 people max, giving everyone more elbow room and a more hands-on experience working structure and drop-offs. For yellow perch, we can take the full crew of 6 since these schooling fish often provide non-stop action once we locate them. The boat's equipped with everything you need, from rods and tackle to a fish cleaning station, so you can focus on the fun part – setting hooks and landing fish.
Trolling vs. Casting Tactics
When we're trolling for walleye, we'll be running multiple lines at controlled speeds, typically using diving crankbaits, crawler harnesses, or spoons depending on water temperature and fish behavior. This method lets us cover different depths simultaneously and dial in exactly what the fish want that day. You'll learn to read the electronics, understand how speed and lure selection affect your success, and get a feel for detecting those subtle walleye bites. Casting trips put you more in control – we'll work weed edges, rocky points, and drop-offs where walleye ambush baitfish. You'll be throwing jigs, soft plastics, and crankbaits, learning to feel bottom structure and work your lures through the strike zone. For perch fishing, we typically anchor up or drift over schools, using simple but effective perch rigs with small hooks and live or cut bait. These fish are aggressive feeders, so once you find them, it's often fish-after-fish action that keeps everyone busy.
Target Species Breakdown
Walleye are the crown jewel of Lake Erie, and for good reason. These golden beauties average 2-4 pounds but can push well over 6 pounds, especially during spring and fall when they're feeding heavily. Walleye are most active during low-light periods – early morning, late evening, and overcast days – making them perfect for our flexible trip timing. They're known for their light, flaky white meat that's considered some of the best eating in freshwater, and they put up a solid fight without being too aggressive for younger anglers. What makes walleye special is their schooling behavior; when you find one, there are usually more nearby, which means steady action once we locate them.
American Yellow Perch might be smaller than walleye, but they make up for it with sheer numbers and pure fun factor. These striped fighters typically run 8-12 inches and are absolute dynamite on light tackle. Perch are active year-round but really turn on during late summer and fall when they're fattening up for winter. They travel in large schools and are competitive feeders, often creating feeding frenzies where multiple rods go off at once. Kids especially love perch fishing because the action is fast, the fish are easy to handle, and they're delicious in the pan. Plus, perch are less finicky than walleye about weather conditions, making them a reliable backup plan when conditions aren't perfect for trolling.
