Extended Half Day Fort Lauderdale Offshore Charter
When you're looking to get serious about offshore fishing without burning a whole day, this 6-hour private charter with It's Never Enough Sport Fishing hits that sweet spot perfectly. We're talking about prime time on South Florida's most productive waters, where the Gulf Stream runs close to shore and the fish are always biting. This isn't your typical half-day trip – we've got the extra hours to get out to the good stuff and really put you on fish. Whether you're after that bucket-list sailfish or want to load the cooler with some prime eating fish, we've got you covered with everything included.
What to Expect on the Water
This charter strikes the perfect balance between offshore adventure and realistic fishing time. We'll head out from Fort Lauderdale's inlet and make our way to the prime fishing grounds where the continental shelf drops off and the big fish cruise. The boat can handle up to 6 anglers comfortably, making it perfect for families, groups of friends, or corporate outings where everyone wants in on the action. Captain and crew know these waters like the back of their hands – they've been putting clients on fish here for years and they'll adjust the game plan based on what's biting that day. You don't need to bring anything except yourself and maybe some snacks if you get hungry. All your tackle, bait, gear, and even fishing licenses are handled, so you can focus on what matters – catching fish.
Trolling Tactics & Gear Setup
We'll be running a spread of trolling lures and live bait to cover all the bases out there. The crew sets up multiple lines at different depths and speeds to target whatever's in the area – ballyhoo on the outriggers for sailfish and mahi, deeper lines for wahoo and kingfish, and we'll even throw some lures back in the wash for barracuda and smaller tunas. The boat's rigged with quality Penn and Shimano reels that can handle anything from 20-pound tackle for the sporty fights up to 50-pound gear when we're targeting the bigger wahoo and amberjack. Live bait fishing is also a big part of the program here – we'll often pick up some pilchards or sardines and drift them back on the kites when the sailfish are showing. The crew handles all the rigging and will coach you through the fights, so even if you're new to offshore fishing, you'll feel confident when something big hits.
Top Catches This Season
Atlantic Sailfish are the crown jewel of South Florida offshore fishing, and Fort Lauderdale sits right in their highway. These acrobatic fighters typically run 6-8 feet long and put on an absolute show when hooked – jumping, tail-walking, and making screaming runs that'll test your drag system. Peak season runs from December through April when they're migrating through in big numbers. What makes sailfish so special is that combination of size, speed, and aerial display. When one lights up behind a bait, that electric blue and silver coloration is something you'll never forget. Most anglers practice catch and release with sails, making it a true sport fish experience.
Mahi Mahi, or dolphinfish as they're properly called, are pure gold out here – both in color and eating quality. These fast-growing fish hit hard and fight even harder, with the bulls reaching 30-50 pounds during peak season from March through August. They're often found around floating debris, weed lines, or following the sailfish schools. What anglers love about mahi is their willingness to eat just about anything you put in front of them, plus they're phenomenal on the dinner table. The smaller females, called hens, school up in big numbers, while the bigger bulls with their distinctive square heads cruise solo or in pairs.
Greater Amberjack are the bulldogs of the reef, and Fort Lauderdale's ledges and wrecks hold some serious fish. These bruisers can push 50-100 pounds and will test every ounce of your stamina with their powerful, head-shaking runs straight back to the bottom. They're year-round residents but fish best from October through March when they're fattened up and aggressive. Jack fishing is all about heavy tackle and keeping them away from structure – once they get wrapped up in a wreck, it's game over. The reward is some of the best-fighting fish in the ocean and excellent table fare when prepared right.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the offshore world, capable of hitting 60+ mph and growing to 80+ pounds in these waters. They're notorious for their slashing attacks on high-speed trolling lures and their ability to cut through leaders with razor-sharp teeth. Winter months from November through March typically produce the best wahoo action here. What makes them so exciting is that explosive strike followed by blistering runs that'll smoke your reel if the drag isn't set right. They're also premium eating – firm, white meat that's perfect for grilling or making into fish steaks.
Great Barracuda are the opportunistic predators that patrol these reefs and weed lines year-round. While they might not be the biggest fish in the ocean, they make up for it with aggressive strikes and impressive jumping ability. The bigger ones can reach 4-5 feet and 20+ pounds, with those distinctive needle teeth and attitude to match. Barracuda fishing is fast-paced and visual – you'll often see them following lures right to the boat before deciding to strike. They're excellent light-tackle fish and provide non-stop action when the bigger pelagics aren't cooperating.
