Private 6-Hour Day Fishing Trip
Picture this: six solid hours on the water with your crew, chasing everything from trophy king mackerel to plate-sized snappers. This isn't your typical rushed half-day trip where you're just getting warmed up when it's time to head back. We're talking about a full day of fishing that gives you the time to really dial in on what's biting and maximize your chances at landing something special. Captain Mirisola knows these waters like the back of his hand, and with a 4-person max, you'll get the personalized attention that makes all the difference between a good day and a legendary one.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll fire up the engines at 8:00 AM sharp, giving us the perfect window to hit multiple spots throughout the day. The beauty of a 6-hour charter is flexibility – we can start by trolling the deeper water for kings and mahi, then work our way to structure for snapper and cobia as conditions change. You'll have time to try different techniques, switch up baits, and really get a feel for what's working. The boat's equipped with quality rods and reels, but if you've got lucky gear you prefer, bring it along. We keep a solid selection of live and cut bait on board, plus the lures that have been producing lately. With just four anglers max, there's plenty of room to fight fish without getting tangled up, and everyone gets their fair share of rod time.
Techniques and Tackle
We'll run a mix of trolling and bottom fishing depending on what's hot. For the pelagic species like mahi and kings, we'll pull spreader bars, ballyhoo, and diving plugs at varying speeds and depths. When we find fish, we'll often stop and chunk with live bait or pitch artificials to keep the action going. The bottom fishing game is all about finding the right structure – wrecks, ledges, and rocky bottom that hold snapper, cobia, and other reef species. We use circle hooks for the snappers to ensure good releases, and when cobia show up, we'll switch to live bait or jigs to get their attention. The captain reads the conditions and adjusts tactics throughout the day. If the bite's hot in one spot, we'll stick around. If it's slow, we move until we find them. That's the advantage of having six hours – you're not rushed into making compromises.
Top Catches This Season
Grey snapper are the bread and butter out here, and these fish are smart. They hang around structure in schools, but the bigger ones are cautious. Best action usually comes early morning or late in the trip when the sun starts getting lower. These fish fight harder than their size suggests and make excellent table fare. The 12-16 inch fish are common, but we regularly see snappers pushing 20+ inches that'll give your drag a workout.
Yellowcheek wrasse might not be the first species you think of, but they're surprisingly fun fighters and beautiful fish. They're often found around the same structure as snapper, and while they're not huge, they're aggressive and colorful. Kids especially love catching these because they bite readily and put up a spirited fight for their size.
King mackerel are the speed demons of the offshore world. Spring through fall, these fish patrol the waters looking for schools of baitfish, and when you hook one, get ready for screaming runs and aerial displays. A good king will test your drag system and your arm strength. The 20-30 pounders are common, but we see fish over 40 pounds that'll have you questioning your equipment choices.
Mahi mahi are probably the most exciting fish we target. They're beautiful, acrobatic, and when you find one, there's usually more around. These fish love floating debris and weed lines, and they'll absolutely crush a trolled bait or lure. The smaller schoolies are fun, but when a bull mahi shows up, that's when things get serious. They're also fantastic eating, so you'll be happy on the water and at the dinner table.
Cobia are the wild cards that can make your day. These fish cruise around structure and are curious enough to check out the boat. When we spot one, it's all hands on deck – they're big, strong, and not easy to land. A 30-pound cobia will give you a fight you won't forget, and they're excellent on the grill. They're not always cooperative, but when they are, it's magic.
