Private Half Day 4-Hour Fishing Adventure
Nothing beats the freedom of having the boat all to yourself and your crew for a solid 4-hour fishing session. With Mirisola Fishing Charters, you're getting a captain who knows these waters like the back of his hand and won't waste time getting you on the fish. Whether you're an early bird ready to hit the water at 8 AM or prefer the afternoon bite starting at 1 PM, this trip is designed around what you want to do. We're talking about real offshore action here – the kind where you might hook into a screaming king mackerel one minute and be battling a bulldogging mahi the next. Four anglers max means everyone gets plenty of rod time and the captain's full attention when that drag starts singing.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical head boat experience where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers. You've got the whole operation to yourselves, which means we can adapt the game plan based on what's biting and what your group wants to target. Some days we'll start by trolling the blue water for pelagics – think wahoo, mahi, and kings – pulling a spread of lures at different depths to cover the water column. Other times, we might find a good piece of structure and anchor up to work the bottom for whatever's holding there. The beauty of a private charter is flexibility. If someone in your group has never caught a big fish before, we can focus on getting them hooked up. If you're all seasoned anglers looking for that trophy shot, we'll hunt the spots where the big boys hang out. Captain's been working these waters long enough to read the conditions and put you where the fish are feeding.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
We run a full spread when we're trolling – usually four to six lines out at different distances and depths to maximize our chances. You'll see everything from surface runners to deep diving plugs, plus some ballyhoo rigs that drive the kings absolutely crazy. The boat's rigged with quality Penn and Shimano reels spooled with fresh line, and we've got rods matched to the target species. For the bigger stuff like wahoo and big kings, we're talking 30-50 pound class tackle that can handle a freight train run but still gives you the fight you're looking for. When we switch to bottom fishing or drift fishing, we'll break out the spinning gear and conventional setups depending on what we're after. Live bait is always an option when the fish are finicky – nothing beats a frisky pilchard or sardine when the bite gets tough. The captain handles all the rigging and bait prep, so you can focus on what you came here for: catching fish and having a good time with your crew.
Top Catches This Season
King mackerel are the bread and butter of these waters, and for good reason. These silver rockets can hit 40+ pounds and will test every knot on your rig when they make their first screaming run. Kings are most active during the cooler months, typically from October through March, when they move inshore to feed on the abundant baitfish. They're aggressive trollers and will absolutely destroy a properly presented live bait or well-tuned spoon. What makes them special is that initial run – pure adrenaline as 200 yards of line disappears in seconds.
Mahi mahi, or dolphinfish as the locals call them, are hands down one of the most exciting fish you can hook in these waters. They're beautiful, acrobatic fighters that put on an aerial show once hooked. Mahi typically run 10-30 pounds here, though bulls can push 50+. They love floating debris, weed lines, and temperature breaks, which makes them perfect targets for a trolling spread. The cool thing about mahi is they often travel in schools, so when you find one, there's usually more around. They hit hard, jump high, and the bright gold and green colors make for fantastic photos.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the deep blue. These torpedo-shaped predators can hit 60+ mph and will absolutely smoke your drag on the initial run. They're typically caught while trolling high-speed lures or rigged ballyhoo, and they prefer the cleaner blue water offshore. Wahoo have razor-sharp teeth and a bad attitude, making them one of the most challenging fish to land. They're also fantastic eating, with firm white meat that's perfect on the grill. Most wahoo here run 20-50 pounds, but the occasional monster can push 80+.
Great barracuda are the ultimate opportunistic predator and will hit just about anything that moves through their territory. These ambush hunters can reach impressive sizes, with fish over 40 inches not uncommon. They're lightning fast and have a mouth full of teeth that demands respect. Barracuda are great targets for sight fishing when conditions allow, and they'll absolutely crush topwater lures and live bait presentations. They're year-round residents, making them a reliable target when other species are being finicky.
Florida pompano might be smaller than the other species on this list, but pound for pound, they're some of the hardest fighting fish in these waters. These silver bullets rarely exceed 5 pounds, but they'll bend your rod in half and make multiple strong runs before coming to the boat. Pompano are excellent table fare – many consider them the best eating fish in Florida waters. They're typically caught while bottom fishing or drifting with small jigs and live or cut bait, making them perfect targets when we anchor up over good structure.
