Carcharhinus LimbatusBlacktips are one of the most exciting sharks to target in our Key West waters. These sleek predators average 4-5 feet but can reach up to 9 feet, and they're famous for those distinctive black-tipped fins. What makes them special is their acrobatic nature - they'll jump clean out of the water when hooked, sometimes reaching 21 feet per second! You'll find them patrolling the deeper channels around artificial reefs in 30-100 feet of water, especially during warmer months. They're actually pretty timid despite their reputation, but once you get one on the line, they put up a solid fight. The key to hooking blacktips is using heavy braided line (20-50 lb test) with circle hooks and plenty of oily chum. The meat's not great, but the fight more than makes up for it.
