Private 4 Hour Offshore Fishing Trip | 26ft Boston Whaler
Looking to get away from the crowds and hit some serious fish? This 4-hour offshore charter aboard our 26-foot Boston Whaler is exactly what you need. We'll run 9 to 15 miles out where the water turns that deep blue color and the fish get bigger. Captain will read the conditions and put you on whatever's biting best that day – could be dropping down for some tasty bottom fish or running and gunning for pelagics on the surface. With just four anglers max, you'll have plenty of room to fight fish and won't be bumping elbows with strangers.
What to Expect on the Water
Once we clear the inlet and start making our way offshore, you'll feel that excitement building as the coastline fades behind us. The 26-foot Boston Whaler handles these waters like a champ – stable platform for fighting fish and spacious enough that everyone gets their shot. Your captain knows these offshore grounds like the back of his hand and will adjust the game plan based on what's been producing lately. Some days we're anchored up over structure dropping live bait for snapper and grouper, other days we're covering water with the trolling spread out looking for kings, tuna, and cobia. The beauty of offshore fishing is you never know what's going to grab your line next. Could be a nice gag grouper one minute, then a screaming king mackerel the next. Water's usually clearer out here too, so when you're fighting a fish you can often see it coming up from the depths.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
We fish two main ways depending on what's biting – bottom fishing and trolling. For the bottom bite, we'll anchor or drift over known structure and drop down with live bait, cut bait, or jigs. Captain provides all the tackle, but we're talking medium to heavy action rods that can handle pulling fish up from 60 to 120 feet of water. Circle hooks are the way to go for most bottom species – they hook fish in the corner of the mouth and reduce gut hooking. When we're trolling, we spread out a mix of planers, downriggers, and surface baits to cover different parts of the water column. Ballyhoo rigged on dredges, spoons behind planers, and live bait on the flat lines. The boat's rigged with all the electronics you need – fish finder, GPS, and chart plotter to mark productive spots. Captain will coach you through the fights, especially if you hook into something substantial that wants to make long runs.
Top Catches This Season
Greater Amberjack – These bruisers are what dreams are made of. Amberjack can push 40 to 60 pounds out here and they fight like freight trains. They love structure and will try to wrap you up in whatever wreck or reef they're hanging around. Best fishing is usually spring through fall when they're most active. Once you hook one, get ready for your arms to burn – they pull hard and don't give up easy. The meat's excellent too, especially the smaller ones.
Great Barracuda – Speed demons with a mouthful of teeth that'll give you an adrenaline rush every time. Cuda can show up anywhere from 10 to 40 pounds and they strike with serious aggression. They're ambush predators that love shiny lures and live bait. When one hits, it's usually explosive – they'll jump, run, and put on a show. Year-round species that keeps things interesting when you're targeting other fish.
Gag Grouper – The bread and butter of offshore bottom fishing. Gags are smart, strong, and absolutely delicious on the dinner table. They range from keeper size around 24 inches up to real nice fish pushing 30-plus pounds. These fish have personality – they'll follow your bait up sometimes, checking it out before committing. Once hooked, they head straight for the bottom and any structure they can find. Best months are typically fall and winter when they're feeding heavily.
Black Sea Bass – Don't let the size fool you – these little fighters are fun to catch and excellent eating. Most run 1 to 3 pounds but they're scrappy and hit hard. Sea bass are perfect for getting kids or new anglers involved since they bite consistently and don't require heavy tackle. They're also great to have in the box when the bigger fish aren't cooperating. Peak season runs from late spring through early fall.
Blackfin Tuna – Pure speed and power in a smaller package. Blackfins typically run 10 to 25 pounds but they fight way above their weight class. These fish are built for speed and when one hits a trolled bait, your reel's going to scream. They school up offshore and when you find them, the action can be non-stop. Excellent sashimi fish too if you're into that. They show up best during the warmer months when baitfish are thick offshore.
