Private 6 Hour Offshore Fishing Trip | 26' Boston Whaler
When you're ready to get serious about offshore fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, this 6-hour charter is exactly what you need. We're talking about heading 15-25 miles out into blue water where the real action happens. Our 26' Boston Whaler is built for these conditions—stable, comfortable, and equipped with everything you need to land some serious fish. Whether you're after bottom species like Red Snapper and Grouper or want to troll for pelagics like Kingfish and Tuna, we've got you covered. The Gulf changes daily, and that's what keeps it exciting. Your captain knows these waters like the back of his hand and will put you on whatever's biting best.
What to Expect on the Water
This trip is all about variety and putting fish in the cooler. We'll start the morning by running out to productive bottom structure where Snapper, Grouper, and Amberjack hang out. These spots are anywhere from 60 to 120 feet deep, and the fish stack up on artificial reefs, natural ledges, and oil rigs. While we're working the bottom, we'll also keep our eyes open for surface action—diving birds, bait schools, and color changes that signal pelagic fish are around. When conditions are right, we'll switch gears and start trolling for Kingfish, Cobia, and whatever else is cruising the upper water column. The beauty of a 6-hour trip is having time to do both styles of fishing without feeling rushed. You'll get to experience the arm-burning fight of a big Amberjack one minute and the smoking run of a King Mackerel the next.
Tackle & Techniques We Use
We come prepared with a full arsenal of gear and techniques. For bottom fishing, we're using heavy conventional reels loaded with 50-80 pound test, chicken rigs, and knocker rigs depending on what we're targeting. Live bait is king out here—we'll catch our own Cigar Minnows, Blue Runners, and Hardtails, or bring along some quality frozen Sardines and Squid. When we're trolling, we'll pull a spread of planers, downriggers, and surface baits to cover the water column. Spoons, diving plugs, and rigged Ballyhoo are go-to presentations. Don't worry if you've never used this gear before—part of what makes this trip special is learning new techniques from an experienced captain. We'll show you how to work a jig, set the drag properly, and fight fish efficiently. By the end of the day, you'll be handling the gear like a pro.
Top Catches This Season
The Gulf of Mexico is home to some seriously impressive fish, and each species brings something different to the table. Greater Amberjack are absolute bulldogs that will test your endurance and drag system. These fish live around structure in 80-200 feet of water and can easily push 50-60 pounds. They're available year-round but really turn on during the cooler months when they move shallow to spawn. The fight is what makes them special—they'll head straight down and just pull and pull until your arms are screaming. Hogfish are one of the best eating fish in the Gulf, with sweet, flaky white meat that's hard to beat. They're usually found around rocky bottom in 60-100 feet, and while they're not huge fighters, they're incredibly rewarding to catch and even better on the dinner table. Great Barracuda bring the speed and aggression that gets your heart pumping. These toothy predators will absolutely destroy a trolled bait, and their initial runs are lightning fast. They're around year-round but seem most active during the warmer months when baitfish are thick.
Gag Grouper are the prize of many offshore trips—they're excellent table fare and put up a solid fight. These fish are structure-oriented and can be found from 60 feet out to 200+ feet. They're most active during the cooler months and have a habit of heading straight for the rocks when hooked, so you need to turn them quick. The Goliath Grouper are the monsters of the bunch. These giants can exceed 400 pounds and are pure muscle. While they're catch-and-release only, hooking into one is an experience you won't forget. They're usually found around wrecks and large structures, and the fight is more about leverage and patience than speed. When you see one of these prehistoric-looking fish come up from the depths, it's a moment that never gets old.
