6 - 8 HR Deep Sea Fishing Experience
Ready to get serious about fishing? Sun & Sand Charters' deep sea adventure takes you way beyond the beach break to where the real action happens. We're talking about a full 6-8 hours on the water, hitting spots that consistently produce trophy fish. This isn't your typical half-day trip – we've got time to work multiple structures, adapt to conditions, and really dial in what the fish want. With room for up to 6 anglers, you'll have plenty of elbow room and personal attention from our crew who know these waters like the back of their hand.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts before sunrise as we head out to our productive zones. Depending on conditions and what's biting, we'll work everything from nearshore reefs to offshore wrecks and blue water drop-offs. The beauty of an extended trip is flexibility – if the mahi are thick on the weed lines, we can stay and capitalize. If the bottom bite is hot on a wreck, we've got time to really work it over. Our crew comes prepared with fresh bait, sharp hooks, and tackle sized for everything from snapper to big pelagics. We'll adjust techniques throughout the day based on what we're seeing, keeping you in fish and teaching you the nuances of each spot.
Techniques and Tackle
We run a variety of methods to maximize your success. Trolling is our bread and butter for covering water and finding active schools – we'll pull spreads of ballyhoo, cedar plugs, and spoons to trigger strikes from wahoo, mahi, and kingfish. When we find structure, we switch to bottom fishing with heavy tackle, dropping baits to grouper and snapper hiding in the rocks. Jigging comes into play around wrecks and drop-offs where aggressive fish are looking up for an easy meal. Our gear is tournament-grade stuff that can handle whatever we hook into, and we'll match your tackle to the target species. Whether you're comfortable with conventional reels or prefer spinning gear, we've got setups that'll get the job done.

Species You'll Want to Hook
Mahi Mahi are the crown jewel of our offshore fishing, and West Palm Beach sits in prime territory for these electric fighters. Also called common dolphinfish, mahi are built for speed and acrobatics – expect multiple jumps and long runs when you hook into a good one. They school heavily around floating debris, weed lines, and temperature breaks, especially during their peak season from April through September. Bulls can push 30-50 pounds and provide arm-burning fights, while smaller schoolies are perfect for steady action. What makes mahi special is their aggressive nature and willingness to eat – they'll crush trolled baits, inhale live bait, and even hit jigs. The bonus is they're fantastic table fare with firm, mild flesh that's perfect for the grill.
Wahoo fishing off West Palm Beach is pure adrenaline – these fish are built like torpedoes and hit like freight trains. Known as the fastest fish in the ocean, wahoo can reach speeds over 60 mph, which becomes obvious the second one grabs your bait. They're structure-oriented, hanging around wrecks and drop-offs where they ambush baitfish. Winter months from November through March offer the best wahoo action when water temperatures drop and bait concentrates. These fish average 20-40 pounds but can exceed 60, providing fights that'll test your drag and your arms. Wahoo have razor-sharp teeth that can slice through wire, so we use heavy leader and sharp hooks. The payoff is some of the best eating fish in the ocean – their white, flaky meat rivals any restaurant fish.
Red Snapper represent the gold standard of bottom fishing, and our offshore reefs hold healthy populations of these prized fish. They're structure lovers, holding tight to rocky bottom, artificial reefs, and wrecks in 60-200 feet of water. Red snapper are notorious for their strong initial run toward structure when hooked, requiring steady pressure to turn them. They're most active during warmer months but can be caught year-round with the right approach. These fish are incredibly smart – they'll inspect baits, test lines, and require finesse to fool consistently. Fresh cut bait works best, especially sardines, pilchards, and squid presented on circle hooks. A good red snapper runs 5-15 pounds and provides excellent table fare with sweet, firm meat that's perfect for any preparation.
Black Grouper are the bruisers of our reef systems, using brute strength and structure knowledge to test every aspect of your tackle. These ambush predators hide in caves and ledges, waiting for unsuspecting prey to swim within striking distance. When hooked, they make one powerful run toward their hole – if they reach it, the fight's over. Black grouper require heavy tackle and aggressive fighting techniques to turn them before they cut you off. They're most active during warmer months and respond well to large live baits like blue runners and pinfish. These fish can reach impressive sizes, with 20-40 pound fish being common and true giants exceeding 60 pounds. Beyond the fight, black grouper are considered premium table fare with thick, white fillets that are perfect for grilling or blackening.
Skipjack Tuna bring non-stop action when schools move through our area, especially during migration periods in spring and fall. These smaller tunas travel in large schools and feed aggressively on baitfish, creating explosive surface action that's visible from miles away. When we find working birds and breaking fish, it often means skipjack are pushing bait to the surface. They'll hit everything from small jigs to troll
