Port Orange Deep Sea Fishing Adventures
If you're ready to get serious about offshore fishing, this 6-hour charter out of Port Orange puts you right where the big fish live. We're talking Atlantic waters where snapper, grouper, and amberjack patrol the bottom structure—and they're hungry. Captain Aaron and the Top Notch Adventures crew know exactly where to find productive spots that consistently produce fish. This isn't some tourist trap where you'll spend half the day traveling; we get you to the fish fast and keep you hooked up. Perfect for two anglers who want quality time on the water without burning a whole day, whether you're seasoned pros or just getting your feet wet in deep water fishing.
What to Expect on the Water
Once we clear the inlet, it's a straight shot to some of the most productive bottom fishing grounds off the Volusia County coast. We're targeting structure-loving species that hang around wrecks, reefs, and hard bottom areas where the current brings plenty of baitfish. The Atlantic out here drops off quick, and that's where the good stuff lives. You'll be fishing anywhere from 60 to 120 feet of water, depending on what's biting and where the fish are stacked up. The boat's rigged with quality tackle and we provide all the bait—live and cut bait depending on what the fish want that day. Two anglers means plenty of elbow room and personal attention from the crew. We'll have you set up with the right rigs, show you how to work the bottom, and coach you through fighting bigger fish if you're new to it.
Bottom Fishing Tactics That Work
Offshore bottom fishing is all about reading the structure and presenting bait where fish expect to find it. We run conventional reels spooled with heavy braid—usually 50 to 80-pound test—because you need stopping power when a big grouper tries to dive back into the rocks. Circle hooks are the standard here, both for conservation and because they hook fish in the corner of the mouth for better hooksets. We'll drop down with everything from live pinfish and grunts to cut bait like squid and bonita strips, depending on what species we're targeting. The key is getting your bait to the bottom fast and keeping it in the strike zone. Current can be tricky out there, so we'll show you how to feel the bottom and adjust your weight accordingly. When something grabs your bait, the fight is straight up—no running around the boat like with pelagic species.

Species You'll Want to Hook
King Mackerel are the speed demons of the offshore scene, and when they're around, you'll know it. These fish can stretch over 40 inches and fight like freight trains with an attitude problem. Spring through fall is prime time for kings off Port Orange, and they'll absolutely smoke a drag if you're not ready for them. What makes kings special is their aggressive strikes and blistering runs—they'll take 100 yards of line before you know what hit you. We typically find them around the same structure we're fishing for bottom species, but they'll come up in the water column to feed.
Grey Triggerfish might not win beauty contests, but they're tough fighters with serious attitude. These guys have powerful jaws built for crushing shellfish, so they'll test your tackle and your patience. They're notorious bait stealers, but when you hook a good one, they'll bulldoze toward the bottom with surprising strength for their size. Triggers are year-round residents, but they really turn on during the warmer months. They're excellent table fare with firm, white meat that holds up well to almost any cooking method.
Great Barracuda are the opportunists of the reef, and they'll surprise you with explosive strikes when you least expect it. These fish are built for speed with razor-sharp teeth and an aggressive hunting style. Barracuda can show up any time of year, but summer months bring the bigger specimens. They're exciting because you never know when one will come out of nowhere and absolutely crush your bait. The fight is fast and furious—lots of head shaking and jumping that'll get your adrenaline pumping.
Cobia are the prize fish that'll make your trip memorable. These brown sharks of the reef can push 40 to 50 pounds and fight with incredible power and endurance. Spring and fall migrations bring the best cobia fishing, when they're moving through in schools and feeding aggressively. What sets cobia apart is their curiosity—they'll often come up to check out the boat, giving you a chance to sight-fish for them. Once hooked, they make long, powerful runs and don't give up easy. Plus, they're phenomenal eating with firm, almost steak-like meat.
Red Snapper are the gold standard of bottom fishing when they're in season, and there's nothing quite like the steady thump-thump of a good snapper fighting on the way up from deep water. These fish are structure-oriented and smart, often requiring finesse presentations to get them to bite. Snappers average 3 to 8 pounds but can reach double digits, and they're prized for their excellent table quality. The bite can be subtle—just a slight tick on the rod tip—but once you set the hook, they'll use every inch of structure to try to break you off. Their distinctive red color and excellent eating quality make them a favorite target for serious bottom fishermen.
