My son and I took a trip up to Aylmer Lake Lodge this summer. If you are looking for a remote fly in fishing experience in one of the most beautiful places on Earth and fish pristine waters for huge lake trout and arctic grayling, then I highly recommend this lodge for a trip of a lifetime.

My son Brenan and I booked a trip with Aylmer lake lodge in June 2020 for July 2021, but unfortunately when July 2021 came around there was a travel ban still in place for Canada. Kevin and Patti honored our booking until the following year for July 2022 at no extra cost. Our trip had a clear, precise itinerary from the start. Patti and Kevin were awesome hosts, even prior to the trip taking place. Several of my coworkers and friends and family that had fishing hunting trips booked over Covid pandemic had nothing but headaches. Aylmer Lake Lodge is one the remotest places in the world, but compared to other more famous resorts in the NWT, it has had zero fishing pressure. And because it IS so remote, there are no settlements competing for fish – it is literally untouched wilderness. The Lake trout fishing was unbelievable, way past my expectations for me and my son. We both caught our personal best Lake trout on a fly rod. We caught literally dozens of lake trout in the 10-20 Lbs class, at least a dozen between 20-30 pound class, and 5 over 30 pounds in 4 days. Anyone who wants to fly fish for lake trout, this is a must trip. My arm was sore for a month afterwards. The lodge is very comfortable with great vistas of the area. The food was excellent – my son still brags about Patti’s lake trout speciality recipes. Breakfasts were hardy and great before heading out for long day fishing. Kevin and Patti run a extremely remote lodge like a family lodge experience, like what I had as a kid in Northern Minnesota before corporations took over the resort business. I highly recommend Aylmer Lake Lodge.

Just got back from a 3 day trip to Great Slave Lake with my Dad at Plummers. We could not have been happier. Our guide Tristian (Frenchie) was amazing, he taught us some new techniques and was shoulders deep in the water giving it his all to help land the 32.5 lbs monster Lake Trout I caught. The food was incredible, especially the shore lunches and the staff were amazing including Whitney who bartends and does about 20 other jobs around the camp. Thanks Plummers, the memories made on this trip will last a lifetime.

If you want to have a full week of bucket list fly fishing. You definitely need to go to Plummer's Arctic Lodge. My wife and I had the an amazing day of arctic char fly fishing with guides Reid Stoyberg and Alex Ginther on the Tree River. My wife and I consider that day to be the best fly fishing experience ever in our lives! To land so many big colourful arctic char was an outstanding experience. Our fly outs to the Sulky River to catch so many gigantic arctic grayling and on to the Coppermine River where chrome hard fighting char is the order of the day were totally worth every penny! The lake trout fly fishing on Great Bear Lake is mind boggling to us. The next tug could be a monster laker that you just dream about catching! The knowledgeable guides are ready for fly fishers. That makes each day so memorable!

We enjoyed a wonderful adventure at Great Slave Lake Lodge. The Lodge staff made us feel right at home. The meals were very good and home made. The accommodations are very tired and should be updated. The fishing was fabulous. We enjoyed our days out with our very experienced and friendly guide Bob. We caught fish of a lifetime. Not just one or two ……. So many each day , my arms are sore by the end of the day. The landscape and scenery was breathtaking. The shore lunches were unforgettable. The experience was truly a trip of a lifetime. I would highly recommend this adventure for couples looking for something fun. I hope to return.

We had THE BEST time at Great Slave Lake Lodge. Our guide Bryce was absolutely AMAZING. Every staff member was extremely helpful, from arranging the trip through Brenda to workers at the lodge. A very special shout out to Natalie who always went above and beyond. We caught 110 lake trout in 4 days from 15 pounds to 29 pounds. Most exciting trip ever and would go back there in a second. LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it. We also went to Great Bear a few years ago which was awesome as well but prefer Great Slave for sure!!! Ann and John Bell
