Panama City Beach is one of Florida’s most popular tourist attractions. Miles of white sand beach, beautiful waters, and of course, good fishing makes this a prime destination for anglers and tourists. Its proximity to both the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrew Bay means that anglers will find plenty of opportunities to catch redfish, Spanish mackerel, and even blackfin tuna in its waters. A great post-fishing activity would be watching the beautiful sunset. If you’re looking for the perfect vacation and fishing spots, Panama City Beach is the place to go.

Panama City Beach: Pristine Beach, Pristine Fishing

A combination of a good location and good climate means that anglers can visit Panama City Beach any time of the year and expect a wonderful fishing experience. Still, the best time to visit the area is during the summer to early fall of the year. Not only is this the time when most of the prized gamefish are available in large numbers, but it’s also when fish are most active as well. These months are the perfect time to catch sailfish, tuna, and even tiger sharks in the beach’s offshore waters. But if you’re just looking for a relaxing morning or afternoon at your boat in the beach’s inshore or onshore, ladyfish, redfish, and red drum are also available at different times of the year there.

The top fish species to target are:

  • Blackfin tuna: This fish becomes available in large numbers from May to September.
  • Sailfish: Its numbers will peak from May to August but remain in numbers from September to October.
  • Redfish: A common fish in the area, its numbers will peak from March to September. It will remain abundant in these months.
  • King mackerel: Will peak from May to August but remain in numbers from September to October.
  • Red snapper: Catching this fish is prohibited throughout most of the year except June to July.
