This isn't just another fishing trip - it's your chance to experience world-class nearshore fishing with a captain who lives and breathes these waters.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll be wheels up at 7:00 AM sharp from Port St. Joe, giving us the best shot at prime fishing conditions before the afternoon winds pick up. This 5-hour window is perfectly timed to hit multiple fishing spots and target different species as the day progresses. The boat's equipped with top-rated electronics to locate structure and baitfish, plus all the tackle you'll need for whatever's biting. With only 3 anglers max, you'll get personalized attention and plenty of room to fight fish without bumping elbows. Captain tailors each trip based on seasonal patterns and what you're hoping to catch - whether you're after a cooler full of snappers or chasing that trophy Cobia. The Gulf waters here are known for their clarity and abundant marine life, making this one of Florida's premier nearshore fishing destinations. Don't forget to bring your favorite drinks and snacks - we've got the fishing covered, you just focus on having a great time.
Techniques and Tackle
We'll be running a mix of bottom fishing and live bait techniques depending on what's working best. For the snapper and grouper, we're talking about dropping baits to ledges and structure in 40-80 feet of water using circle hooks and just enough weight to get down. Live pinfish and cigar minnows are customer favorites, but we'll also run cut bait when the bite calls for it. When Cobia and Mahi show up, we switch gears to sight fishing and live bait presentations that get these predators fired up. All your tackle, bait, and Florida fishing licenses are included, so you don't need to worry about a thing. The captain runs quality Penn and Shimano reels spooled with fresh line, plus a variety of rod actions to match whatever species we're targeting. We keep multiple rigs ready so there's minimal downtime between fish - when they're biting, we want you hooked up, not retying rigs.

Species You'll Want to Hook
Red Snapper are the crown jewel of Gulf Coast fishing, and these waters consistently produce quality fish in the 15-25 pound range. They hang around hard bottom and structure, feeding heavily on small baitfish and crustaceans. Red Snapper season typically runs June through July, but regulations change yearly, so we'll target them when they're legal and focus on other species during closed seasons. What makes them so special is their fight - they'll pull drag and test your tackle all the way to the boat. Plus, you won't find better eating fish in the Gulf.
Gag Grouper are year-round residents that love ledges, rocks, and artificial reefs. These bruisers average 10-20 pounds but can push 30-plus when you hook into a real stud. They're ambush predators that inhale baits and immediately try to get back to their holes, making for heart-stopping battles. Peak season runs from October through March when they're most active, but you can catch them any time of year. Gags are notorious for their white, flaky meat that's perfect on the grill.
Grey Snapper, also called Mangrove Snapper, are one of the most consistent biters we encounter. They range from small 12-inchers up to 5-pound bragging-sized fish around deeper structure. These smart fish require finesse - light leaders and smaller baits often make the difference. They're available year-round but really turn on during summer months. What anglers love about Mangroves is their scrappy fight and excellent table fare, plus they're usually willing to bite when other species are finicky.
Red Grouper are bottom dwellers that love sandy areas mixed with scattered rocks and ledges. They're typically smaller than their Gag cousins, averaging 5-15 pounds, but make up for it with consistent action. Spring through fall offers the best Red Grouper fishing, and they're suckers for live pinfish and cut bait. Their reddish coloration makes them easy to identify, and their sweet, mild meat has made them a restaurant favorite across the Gulf Coast.
Cobia are the wildcard species that can show up anytime and turn an already great day into something special. These brown sharks (as locals call them) cruise the surface and around structure, often following rays and sharks. They average 20-40 pounds but can exceed 50, making them one of the strongest fighting fish in these waters. Peak Cobia season runs March through June during their spawning migration, but stragglers hang around all year. When you see that brown torpedo swimming toward your bait, get ready for the fight of
