Private 6-Hour Charter Trip in South Florida
When you step aboard our charter boat in South Florida waters, you're signing up for some of the best offshore fishing the Atlantic has to offer. Captain A&A Underwater Adventures Mia has been running these waters for years, and we know exactly where the fish are biting. This is a private 6-hour charter built for serious anglers who want to get away from the crowds and focus on what matters – putting quality fish in the boat. We keep our groups small at just 4 guests max, so you'll have plenty of room to fight fish and won't be bumping elbows with strangers.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early when we push off from the dock and head to our productive offshore grounds. The ride out gives you time to get your sea legs and watch the coastline shrink behind us as we make our way to the blue water where the big fish live. Our boat is rigged with quality tackle and we'll have the lines in the water within the first hour. The Gulf Stream current runs close to shore here in South Florida, which means we don't have to burn a ton of fuel to reach the fish. You'll spend most of your 6 hours with baits in the water, not running to spots. We provide all the rods, reels, tackle, and bait you'll need. Just bring yourself, some snacks, and drinks for the day since meals aren't included on this charter.
Trolling Tactics & Gear Setup
We run a spread of both live and artificial baits to cover all the bases out here. Our go-to setup includes a mix of ballyhoo rigged on circle hooks, diving plugs, and feathers that we pull behind the boat at different depths. The trolling speed varies depending on what species we're targeting that day, but we typically cruise between 6-8 knots to keep the baits looking natural. When we mark fish on the sounder or see birds working, we'll switch up to live bait fishing with goggle eyes, pilchards, or whatever bait fish we can catch fresh that morning. Our tackle ranges from 20-pound class spinning gear for the smaller stuff up to 50-pound stand-up rods when the big wahoo and 'cuda show up. Circle hooks are standard on this boat – they hook fish better and make catch and release cleaner when we're putting fish back.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Mahi Mahi, or dorado as some folks call them, are hands down the most exciting fish we target out here. These fish are pure gold when they light up, and they put on an aerial show that'll have you reaching for your camera. Mahi travel in schools, so when you hook one, there's usually more around. They hit trolled baits hard and fight like crazy on lighter tackle. Best time for mahi is late spring through early fall when the weed lines push closer to shore. These fish love structure, so we look for floating debris, sargassum weed, or temperature breaks where they tend to stack up.
Cero Mackerel are South Florida's version of the Spanish mackerel's bigger, meaner cousin. These fish are built for speed with razor-sharp teeth that'll slice through your leader if you're not careful. They're phenomenal on light tackle and will test your drag system with blistering runs. Ceros prefer the reef edges and clear blue water, typically in the 80-120 foot range. They're most active during the cooler months from November through March, and they absolutely crush small feathers and spoons trolled at higher speeds.
Wahoo are the drag-screaming demons of the deep that every angler wants to tangle with at least once. These fish can hit 50+ mph and will strip line off your reel faster than you can blink. They're ambush predators that cruise the blue water drop-offs, and when they decide to eat your bait, you better hold on tight. Wahoo fishing peaks in the winter months when the water cools down, and we typically find them in 200+ feet of water. They're excellent table fare too, with firm white meat that's perfect for the grill.
Great Barracuda are the wolves of the reef, and they'll give you a fight you won't forget. These toothy predators can stretch over 4 feet long and have an attitude to match their size. They're incredibly aggressive and will hit both live and dead baits with authority. Barracuda are year-round residents here in South Florida, hanging around the reef structures and weed lines. They're lightning fast and known for their jumping ability when hooked. Just watch those teeth when bringing them boatside – they don't call them great barracuda for nothing.
Mutton Snapper are the prize of the snapper family down here, and they're as smart as they are tasty. These fish require some finesse to catch consistently since they can be picky eaters, especially the bigger ones. Muttons prefer live bait presented near structure, and they have a habit of making long runs when hooked. They're most active during the warmer months and spawn around the full moons in summer. A good mutton snapper is worth bragging about – they're excellent eating and beautiful fish with those distinctive red fins and yellow highlights.
