Port Canaveral Deep Sea Fishing Adventure
Port Canaveral sits right at the doorstep of some of Florida's most productive offshore waters, and C Suite Charters knows exactly where the big ones are biting. This isn't your typical half-day trip – we're talking about 9 to 12 hours of serious fishing time in the Gulf Stream, where the water runs deep blue and the fish run big. With only 6 anglers max, you'll have plenty of room to work and won't be fighting for rail space when that trophy fish hits your line. The crew takes care of everything from rigging your tackle to cooking your meals, so all you need to do is show up ready to fish.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early at Port Canaveral marina, where the C Suite crew will have everything prepped and ready to roll. As we head out toward the Gulf Stream, you'll be treated to a hot breakfast – trust me, there's nothing like bacon and eggs on the water as the sun comes up. The run to the fishing grounds takes about an hour, giving you time to wake up, get your sea legs, and talk strategy with the captain. Once we hit the blue water, it's game on. The crew will have multiple lines out, working different depths and baits to maximize your chances. Whether you're a seasoned angler or this is your first time targeting pelagics, the crew will put you on fish and coach you through the fight. Lunch comes mid-day when the action slows, and there's always a cooler full of cold drinks to keep you hydrated in the Florida sun.
Trolling Tactics & Gear Setup
C Suite Charters runs a spread of high-speed trolling lures and live bait that's proven to produce in these waters. We're talking heavy tackle here – 50 to 80-pound class gear that can handle whatever the Gulf Stream throws at us. The boat is rigged with outriggers and a center rigger, allowing us to run up to six lines without tangles. When we're targeting billfish, the crew will set up a mix of ballyhoo, artificial lures, and teasers to create an irresistible spread. For bottom fishing, we'll anchor up over structure and drop fresh cut bait or live baits down to where the grouper and amberjack hang out. The electronics on board include top-notch fish finders and GPS, so the captain can put you on productive water whether we're trolling the edge or working specific bottom spots. All tackle, bait, and fishing licenses are included, though you're welcome to bring your own gear if you've got a favorite rod you like to fish.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Atlantic Sailfish are the bread and butter of Port Canaveral's offshore scene, especially from November through April when they migrate through in good numbers. These fish are pure acrobatics once hooked, with multiple jumps and long runs that'll test your drag and your arms. Most sails in these waters run 6 to 8 feet long, and while they're typically released, the fight alone makes them a customer favorite. They're aggressive feeders that'll hit both live baits and high-speed lures, making them a realistic target for anglers of all skill levels.
Blue Marlin represent the holy grail of offshore fishing here, with fish over 400 pounds caught annually in the waters off Port Canaveral. Summer months from May through September offer the best shot at these giants, when the Gulf Stream pushes closest to shore and baitfish are abundant. Landing a blue marlin is a team effort that can take over an hour, and the memories last a lifetime. These fish are almost always released, but the captain will make sure you get plenty of photos before she swims away.
Mahi Mahi, also called dolphinfish or dorado, are some of the most beautiful and delicious fish you'll encounter offshore. They travel in schools and once you find them, multiple hookups are common. Spring and summer bring the best mahi fishing, with fish ranging from schoolie size up to bulls over 40 pounds. They're aggressive biters that'll hit everything from ballyhoo to jigs, and their golden colors and acrobatic fights make them a joy to catch. Plus, they're fantastic on the dinner table.
Greater Amberjack are the muscle cars of the reef, with adults commonly reaching 50 to 100 pounds in the deeper waters off Port Canaveral. These fish live around structure and wrecks, fighting straight down with power that'll surprise you. Fall and winter offer the best amberjack action when they're feeding heavily before spawning season. They're excellent eating when prepared fresh, and their aggressive nature means they'll usually take live or cut baits fished near the bottom.
Wahoo are speed demons that can reach 60 mph, making them one of the most exciting fish to hook in these waters. Winter months bring the best wahoo fishing, with high-speed trolling being the most productive method. These fish have razor-sharp teeth and make blistering runs that'll peel line off your reel in seconds. Most wahoo caught off Port Canaveral range from 20 to 60 pounds, and they're considered by many to be the best eating fish in the ocean.
