Private Full-Day Offshore Fishing – 8-Hour Trip
When you're ready to get serious about offshore fishing, this full-day charter out of Sneads Ferry puts you right where the action is. We're talking 8 solid hours on the water with Captain and crew who know these waters like the back of their hands. You'll be targeting the heavy hitters – Wahoo, Mahi, King Mackerel, Sailfish, and Tuna – all while enjoying a private boat experience built for up to 6 anglers. No crowds, no strangers, just your crew and some of the best fishing grounds the North Carolina coast has to offer.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early at the Sneads Ferry docks, where you'll meet your captain and get the rundown on conditions and game plan. We're fishing out of a well-equipped sportfishing boat that's built for the long haul offshore. The ride out takes us past the inlet and into the deep blue, where the Continental Shelf drops off and the real action begins. Most days we'll start with trolling spreads targeting pelagics, but if you're in the mood for bottom fishing, we can anchor up over some productive structure and drop lines for deep-water species. The captain reads the water, watches for birds, and adjusts tactics based on what the fish are telling us. You're not just along for the ride – you're part of the hunt.
Trolling Tactics & Gear Setup
We run a variety of proven offshore trolling techniques depending on what species we're targeting. The spread typically includes a mix of skirted ballyhoo, cedar plugs, and high-speed lures rigged on different lines at various distances behind the boat. We're talking about covering water at 6-8 knots, watching the outriggers, and staying ready for that heart-stopping moment when a rod starts screaming. All the tackle is tournament-grade stuff – Penn and Shimano reels spooled with quality line, matched to rods that can handle whatever we hook into. If we switch to bottom fishing, we'll anchor over structure in 80-200 feet of water using electric reels and heavy sinkers to get baits down where the big snappers and groupers live. Every piece of gear is maintained and ready to go, so you can focus on fishing instead of worrying about equipment.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Atlantic Sailfish are the crown jewel of our offshore fishery here, especially during the fall and winter months when they migrate south along our coast. These fish average 6-7 feet and put on an aerial show that'll get your heart pumping. They're notorious for their long runs and multiple jumps, making them a top-rated target for serious anglers. Peak season runs from November through March, and when conditions are right, we can see multiple hookups in a single day.
King Mackerel are year-round residents that never disappoint when it comes to speed and power. These fish range from schoolie-size "snakes" up to 40+ pound "smokers" that'll test your drag system. They're aggressive feeders that respond well to trolled baits, especially during the warmer months from April through October. Kings are also excellent table fare, making them a customer favorite for anglers who like to take dinner home.
Mahi Mahi, or Common Dolphinfish, are the most colorful fighters in our offshore lineup. These fish show up in late spring and hang around through early fall, often found under floating debris or weedlines. They're known for their brilliant gold and green colors and acrobatic fights. What makes Mahi special is their schooling behavior – where you find one, you'll usually find more. They're also some of the best eating fish in the ocean.
Wahoo are speed demons that can hit trolled baits at 40+ mph, often cutting through leaders before you know what happened. These fish are built for speed with razor-sharp teeth and a torpedo-shaped body. They're most active during the cooler months and are prized for both their fighting ability and excellent table quality. A good Wahoo will peel line off your reel faster than almost any other species we target.
Yellowcheek Wrasse might not be the biggest fish we catch, but they're part of the diverse bottom fishing action when we switch gears from trolling. These colorful reef fish are abundant around our offshore structure and provide steady action when the pelagics aren't cooperating. They're excellent indicators of healthy reef systems and add variety to your catch.
