It was a beautiful day on the Bolivar Peninsula as we set out for a half-day inshore fishing trip with Robert Willis. March is a prime time to fish these Crystal Beach waters, as the mild weather and warming temperatures have the fish feeding aggressively in the shallows. We got an early start, meeting up at 6:30 AM and heading out to some of my favorite inshore honey holes. With the clear conditions, we had excellent visibility as we scanned the flats and edges, looking for any signs of life. I rigged up a mix of lures and live bait, giving us options to cover different water columns and find what the fish wanted on that particular day. It wasn't long before the rods started bending, and we were into some nice fish. We kept it light and technical, working the edges with finesse presentations and focusing on quality over quantity. Though we didn't manage to land any big prizes, we still had a blast, trying different techniques and putting our skills to the test. The bay was alive with nervous baitfish, and we saw plenty of gamefish busting the surface—a great sign for the rest of the season. Even without a big haul, this was still a fantastic day on the water. The weather was beautiful, the company was great, and we got to experience the thrill of hunting for inshore species in the stunning Bolivar Peninsula ecosystem. If you're looking to get out on the water and chase some hard-fighting inshore gamefish, I'd highly recommend booking a half-day inshore trip with Get the Net Guide Services - Crystal Beach. Whether you're a seasoned angler or brand new to fishing, we'll make sure you have an unforgettable experience chasing your next trophy.
Surface water temperature 75 degrees. Water clarity Good for East Galveston Bay. We battled the typical Springtime winds again this week, so it once again limited where we were able to fish effectively. We found good numbers of solid trout on the Shorelines over shell pockets and within proximity to drains where we had good current movement. If you see bait flipping on the surface the fish are close by, if not, you are best to move on to another spot, after making a few casts. The lighter the jig head the better (1/16 to 1/4), determined by the wind and current, and tails without paddles, are still performing the best, as we were utilizing Anahuac based, Wac Assassin’s in Pearly White & Chartreuse, depending upon clarity and light conditions. This week Fish Smack Popping corks with a 1-to-2-foot leader above a Marker 54 Glide Shrimp has been the top performer for our fishing friends. with a hard pop and about a 5 second pause gathering the most strikes. The new 1/8 oz Shrimplets are coming on strong as well, catching some of our larger trout. The Topwater bite has also been good of late, so if you like throwing walking baits, now is the time. Spring is here and fishing will continue to heat up as the water warms up, so grab your family and friends and beat the crowds on East Galveston Bay.
Surface water temperatures are now in the low 70’s, and water clarity is getting better by the day. We had a few days with North Winds, but for the most part we had winds from the East to Southeast most of the time, with gusts up to 20mph. We fished artificial and live bait trips this week, and depending upon the day and time, the bite was anywhere from finicky to jerk the rod out of your hand, so it made for some great times on East Galveston Bay. This week, we had our best trips in the late afternoon, when we had lots of water and a strong incoming tide. We had a couple of days where every spot we fished produced for us and resulted in some awesome catching for some great fishers. We fished ¼ oz jig heads and the Blue Moon color seemed to trigger some great action for us, as well as live shrimp under a popping cork. The Topwater Bite has been on fire for us the past few days, resulting in our bigger fish and some great action that helped make some great memories for our clients. Most of our catching this week was on Flats and in and around shell on the wind protected shorelines. We photographed and released all of our solid trout over 20”, as we desperately need to get our population of larger trout replenished as it was 10 years or so ago. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay. We had our typical weather for this time of year, early in the week a front pushed thru, with strong North winds, pushing the water out of the bay and muddying up the water. As the week progressed the warming trend took place and the water cleaned up nicely, and made for some nice conditions to get on the fish. Surface water temperatures are now getting up in the low 70’s and fishing is picking up, as we get into our Spring patterns. We were able to catch fish on live shrimp under a popping cork, with the leader being 18 to 24”. We have also done quite well fishing a 1/8 oz head and DownSouth tail under a popping cork and landed a number of Solid Trout, as well as black drum and a few nice Slot reds. On our artificial only trips, we have been using topwaters, and Jigheads with tails, and over the last couple of days the White Ice has been the winner, landing both solid trout and keeper size reds. Most of our fish came this week on an incoming tide, fishing drains, and the flats around the areas protected from the wind, where we could find good bait activity. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay. After the storms blew through on Thursday evening, and the winds subsided the weather stabilized, which made for some wonderful days to be on the water. Outdoor temps started in the lower 60’s with highs in the lower 70’s for the most part. Surface water temperatures mid 60’s to low 70’s, and water stained. Winds generally out of the East, 7 to 15mph. Morning water levels have been extremely low and outgoing strong tides made it ever more critical to know your way around the bay. This week with the strong outflowing tides, we have been starting on the outside edges of drains. When we were able to find nervous baitfish, we were able to locate and catch fish consistently. This week we have found good numbers in a couple of areas, therefore reducing our running around and gas burning of recent weeks. Fish were caught on 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz heads with Down South tails, with most of the fish preferring Limetreuse in the standard size, although purple reign did quite well. We used a number of other artificials, but the jighead-tail combo was the overall winner for bites and quality reds and trout. All in all now is a great time to enjoy God’s Beauty on Galveston Bay. Cold and windy was the story for us up and thru Saturday. By Sunday, the wind was slowly changing from Easterly to South and we managed a couple reds and a flounder, and a large bull that got off. On Monday the water was beginning to clear up from the storms and the early bite for us was a grind. The winds were light as the morning started and we had to break out the Marsh Land spray, as the mosquitos were brutal, to say the least. We found some trout feeding, but could only manage 1 small Spec before the sun peaked above the horizon. As the morning progressed and the water and air temperature began to rise, and the wind picked up out of the Southwest, we were able to land a keeper black drum on an artificial, as well as a beautiful keeper flounder that decided he didn’t like the boat and therefore lived to see another day. As we moved a number of times, we were able to find a few more keeper trout, with 2 solid fish over 19’ to finish up the morning, just in time for lunch. What makes me smile is that Michelle started out the morning as a novice and by mid-morning she was casting and coerced her first artificial lure catch in saltwater, and she said she is now hooked on this sport we love called Fishing. Fish we caught were in and around shell beds, and the bait that performed the best was Magic Grass on ¼ oz heads, fished very slowly. As we get closer to Spring, fishing should continue to heat up, so hit me up in you want to get on the water before the crowds start rolling in. Until Next Time – Captain Jeff Brandon – Get the Net Guide Services, LLC – Year-Round Fishing Guide
North winds and cold fronts seem to be the repeating weather pattern for us in early February, which has made it increasing tough to stay on the fish consistently here in East Galveston Bay. Two days after the front seems to be when fishing seems to improve the most, but the winter low tides, have made it tougher than it was for us at this time last year. We have been able to catch fish on Corky’s, MirrOlure twitch baits, and Jig heads with tails, but the bites have been tough to come by for us. This week we have found no real concentrations of fish, as it was not uncommon to go over an hour without a bite. The fish were positioned in the deeper channels or on soft mud bottoms, trying to warm up. Winds finally switched out of the southwest by Sunday afternoon, as well as water temperatures rising to the upper 50’s, so fishing should continue to get better before the next front arrives later this week. Spring break is just around the corner, which will be a busy time for us and hopefully we can get some good weather to get out and enjoy God’s beauty on the upper Texas coast. We are running artificial trips only this month, so hit me up if you want to get out on the water. Until Next Time – Captain Jeff Brandon – Get the Net Guide Services, LLC – Year-Round Fishing Guide
Well to keep with the current trend, we had a strong cold front arrive, bringing strong North winds, and dipping water temperatures into the upper 40’s . By Saturday the wind had switched back out of the East and as the day progressed, moved out of the South at 10 to 15mph. The morning air temperature started out at 41 degrees and was in the low 60’s around lunch time. The water was heavily stained in East Bay, and the wind did help keep the mosquito activity down a little less than what we have been encountering lately, but still need to spray yourself down with my recommended choice of Marshland Inspect Repellent, made here in the great state of Texas. Fished several areas, on an outgoing tide, where catching has been good of late, but found very few bites till late morning. As the day developed the water began to heat up, bites increased, but the fish were very spread out. Most bites came on a ¼ oz jig head and plum/chartreuse tails, fished very slowly, as the fish were positioned in the deeper channels and bites were very light. If the current trend continues, about 2 to 3 days after the front passes, the fishing normally peaks, so hit me up if you want to get on the water and do some fishing. Until Next Time – Captain Jeff Brandon – Get the Net Guide Services, LLC – Year-Round Fishing Guide
Galveston East Bay 1/28/23Typical for this time of year, another mildcoldfront pushed thru this week, and brought with it rain and some strong North winds, however; water temperatures remained in the low to mid 50’s. By Saturday the wind had switched back out of the East / Southeast and the water was looking good once again, with air temperatures in the 60’s. As the day progressed, the winds increased and were in the 12 -20 mph range for the most part, with a few higher gusts. The wind did help keep the mosquito activity down a little less than what we have been encountering lately, but still need to spray yourself down with my recommended choice of Marshland Inspect Repellent, made here in the great state of Texas. We fished a number of areas, where we had been finding good numbers of fish and we just could not get them to bite, as we moved 5 times, before we figured them out around 11:15am, after the incoming tide began to roll in. The Trout were positioned around the inside mouth of drains and were hanging in deeper cuts close to wind protected shorelines. We were able to manage one flounder in the same area. The bite was non-stop for several hours, with good solid size trout with the largest being at 20”. We utilized 1/4 oz heads with Down South tails (Glow/Chartreuse) as well as Gulp Swimming Mullet (Pearl White/Chartreuse) to land all our fish. The Winter months are a great time to catch good numbers of fish on artificial lures and enjoy the beautiful outdoors with fewer crowds, so hit me up and lets schedule getting our line stretched on East Galveston Bay.
