Full-Day Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada
Miller Time Sportfishing knows what serious anglers want – a full-day offshore charter that puts you on the fish without the crowds. Our Islamorada deep sea fishing trips take you past the reef line into the blue water where the big pelagics roam. With just six anglers max, you'll get plenty of rod time and personalized attention from our crew. We're talking 8-10 hours on the water, covering serious ground to find where the fish are stacked up that day.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early at the dock in Islamorada, where our crew will have the boat prepped and ready. We'll head out through the channels toward the deep water, usually running 8-15 miles offshore depending on conditions and what's biting. The Florida Keys location puts us right in the path of major migration routes, so you're fishing some of the most productive waters in the Atlantic. Our captain reads the water daily – checking temperature breaks, current lines, and bird activity to put you on the best bite. Summer months bring the pelagic action closer to shore, while winter fishing often keeps us working the reef edges and deeper structure. Either way, you're in for a workout.
Techniques We Fish
We run a mix of techniques to maximize your shots at different species. Trolling spreads with ballyhoo, bonito strips, and artificial lures cover water fast when we're hunting mahi, wahoo, and tuna. When we mark fish or find floating structure, we'll switch to live bait fishing with goggle eyes, pilchards, or whatever bait is running thick. Bottom fishing comes into play around wrecks and ledges, especially during winter months when the grouper and snapper are holding deep. Our tackle ranges from 20-pound spinning gear for smaller pelagics up to 50-pound conventional setups for the big boys. All rods, reels, tackle, and bait are included – just bring your fishing license and be ready to fight some fish.
Top Catches This Season
Blackfin tuna are the bread and butter of our summer trips, schooling up in 150-400 feet of water. These fish hit hard and fight dirty, averaging 15-25 pounds with some pushing 40. They're excellent table fare and put up a scrap that'll test your stamina. Blue marlin patrol the deeper water during summer months, and while they're never guaranteed, Islamorada sits in prime marlin territory. Most fish we see run 200-400 pounds, though bigger fish cruise through regularly. The fight is what legends are made of – long runs, aerial displays, and battles that can last over an hour.
Mahi mahi show up around any floating debris, weed lines, or current breaks from late spring through fall. These fish are aggressive feeders and spectacular fighters, jumping repeatedly when hooked. School fish run 5-15 pounds, but bull mahi can push 40-50 pounds and provide serious entertainment. Wahoo are speed demons that hit trolled baits like freight trains, often at boat speeds of 8-12 knots. They're built for speed with razor-sharp teeth, capable of 50+ mph runs that'll smoke your drag. Most wahoo here run 20-40 pounds, with the occasional 60-pounder showing up to make your day memorable.
Black grouper hold around the deeper ledges and wrecks, especially during cooler months. These fish are powerful bottom dwellers that'll try to cut you off in the rocks the second they feel the hook. They're prized for their excellent eating quality and the challenge of getting them up from 100+ feet of water. Most fish run 5-20 pounds, but the offshore structure can produce some real monsters over 50 pounds.
