Spring through fall is prime time when the water warms up and bait moves in close. What makes them special is their aggressive nature and aerial displays - they'll jump clean out of the water multiple times during the fight. They're also great eating if you bleed them right. My go-to setup is heavy tackle with circle hooks and fresh oily bait like mackerel. The key is getting a good chum line going to bring them in close to the boat.
Lutjanus GriseusGrey Snapper, or Mangrove Snapper as most folks call them, are one of our smartest and most rewarding catches. These copper-red fish with the dark eye stripe typically run 1-3 pounds inshore, but bigger ones lurk around deeper structure. They love docks, reefs, and any kind of cover where they can ambush prey. Being nocturnal hunters, they feed best at dawn, dusk, and night.
