12-Hour Blue Water Charter Fishing Adventure
Picture this: it's 6 AM, the sun's just breaking the horizon, and you're heading out for 12 solid hours of some of the best offshore fishing Florida has to offer. This isn't your typical half-day trip where you're just getting warmed up when it's time to head back. We're talking about a full commitment to the deep blue, where the big boys live and legends are made. With Reel Crazy Fishing Charters PCB, you'll have plenty of time to work the productive waters, change up tactics, and really dial in on what the fish are doing that day.
What to Expect on the Water
This 12-hour charter gives you the luxury of time that most anglers dream about. We'll start the morning targeting the early bite, then adjust our game plan as conditions change throughout the day. The beauty of an extended trip like this is we're not rushed - if the fish are biting in one spot, we can work it thoroughly. If they're not cooperating, we've got time to move around and find where they're feeding. October through December is absolutely prime time out here, when the water temps are perfect and the baitfish are thick. You'll be fishing with up to 5 other anglers, so there's plenty of room to spread out and everyone gets their shots at the action. The camaraderie that builds over a long day on the water is something special - by the time we head back to the dock, you'll have made some real fishing buddies.
Trolling Tactics & Blue Water
Out in the deep blue, we're primarily trolling with a spread of lures and baits designed to trigger strikes from pelagic species. We'll run a combination of high-speed trolling for wahoo and kingfish, and slower presentations when we're targeting tuna and grouper around structure. The boat carries all the heavy tackle you'll need - we're talking 50 and 80-pound class rods that can handle whatever decides to eat. When we find birds working or temperature breaks on the fish finder, that's when things get really exciting. We'll also spend time bottom fishing over productive reefs and ledges, using live bait and heavy jigs to pull up some serious bottom dwellers. The key to success on these long trips is reading the water and being willing to adapt - some days the fish want live bait, other days they're crushing artificials.
Top Catches This Season
The wahoo fishing has been absolutely phenomenal this fall. These speed demons are built like torpedoes and can strip 200 yards of line in seconds when they decide to make a run. Most of our wahoo are coming in between 25-50 pounds, with the occasional 60+ pounder that'll test your drag and your biceps. They typically hit hard on high-speed trolled lures, and once hooked, they'll make several blistering runs before giving up. What makes wahoo so special is their incredible speed and the way they absolutely demolish a trolling spread when they show up.
Black grouper are the heavyweights of the reef, and landing one is like arm wrestling with a volkswagen. These bruisers can exceed 100 pounds and will do everything possible to get back to their rocky homes once hooked. We find them around ledges and structure in 80-200 feet of water, and they're suckers for a well-presented live bait or large jig. The fight is all about power - they don't make long runs like pelagics, but they'll pull straight down with incredible force. The meat quality on black grouper is outstanding, making them one of the most sought-after species on our longer trips.
Gag grouper might be smaller than their black cousins, but pound-for-pound they're scrappy fighters with incredible table fare. These guys are more abundant and we typically find them in slightly shallower water around 60-120 feet. They're curious fish that will often follow a hooked fish up from the bottom, giving multiple anglers shots at the school. Gag grouper have this habit of trying to wrap you around structure, so it's important to get them up and away from the bottom quickly once hooked.
Goliath grouper are the gentle giants of Florida waters, and while we practice catch and release with these protected monsters, hooking into one is a bucket-list experience. These prehistoric-looking fish can exceed 400 pounds and will give you a fight you'll never forget. They're surprisingly common around certain structures, and watching one of these giants slowly rise from the depths is something that'll give you chills. The power they possess is simply amazing - it's not uncommon for even experienced anglers to get completely schooled by a big goliath.
Blackfin tuna are the workhorses of the tuna family in our waters, and they're absolute blast on lighter tackle. These 10-30 pound speedsters travel in schools and when you find them feeding, the action can be non-stop. They're incredibly strong for their size and will make multiple runs, testing your drag system and your patience. Blackfins are also excellent eating, with firm red meat that's perfect for sashimi or grilling. We often find them around temperature breaks or feeding on schools of pilchards and sardines.
