Private Full Day Fishing Trip in Miami Beach
There's nothing quite like having the entire boat to yourself and your crew for a full day of fishing off Miami Beach. This private 8-hour charter with Reel Limit Fishing gives you complete control over your day on the water – no crowds, no strangers, just you and up to 5 of your fishing buddies chasing whatever species are biting. We'll push off at 8 AM and won't head back until you've had your fill of action, whether that's battling sailfish in the blue water or dropping baits on the reef for some dinner fish.
What to Expect on the Water
Your captain knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll adjust the game plan based on what's been producing lately and what you're hoping to catch. We typically start by running out to the deep blue water where the pelagics roam – this is where you'll find mahi, tuna, wahoo, and sailfish cruising the current lines and weed patches. The boat's rigged with top-shelf tackle and all the gear you need, so you can focus on the fishing instead of worrying about whether your drag is set right. After working the offshore grounds, there's usually time to hit some reef spots for snapper and grouper if that's what you're after. The beauty of a private charter is flexibility – want to spend the whole day trolling for billfish? We can do that. Prefer to mix it up with some bottom fishing? No problem. Your trip, your call.
Tackle and Techniques
We run a mix of trolling spreads and live bait setups depending on what we're targeting. For the pelagics, expect to pull a combination of ballyhoo, bonito strips, and lures behind the boat while scanning for bird activity, weed lines, and temperature breaks. When we mark fish on the sounder or spot working birds, we'll switch to live bait or casting if the situation calls for it. The boat carries everything from 20-pound spinning gear for mahi and smaller tuna up to 50-pound conventional setups for the bigger wahoo and any surprise marlin that might show up. Bottom fishing involves dropping live or cut baits on circle hooks over structure, and we've got the weights and rigs to get down in the current. All fishing licenses are included, and there's a small fuel surcharge of $3 per gallon to help offset costs – just the reality of fishing these days with fuel prices.
Species You'll Want to Hook
Atlantic Sailfish are the crown jewel of Miami Beach fishing, and these acrobatic billfish put on a show like nothing else in the ocean. They typically range from 6 to 8 feet long and love to jump, tail-walk, and generally make your reel scream. Peak sailfish season runs from December through April when they migrate through in big numbers, but you can find them year-round if you know where to look. The fight is what makes them special – watching a sail come completely out of the water with its bill shaking and dorsal fin fully spread is something that'll stick with you long after the trip ends.
Mahi Mahi are hands-down the most fun fish to catch in these waters, and they're excellent on the dinner table too. These colorful fighters love floating debris, weed lines, and current edges, and they often travel in schools. A typical mahi runs anywhere from 5 to 25 pounds, with the occasional bull dolphin pushing 40-plus. They hit hard, jump high, and their electric blue and gold colors are absolutely stunning when they're fresh out of the water. Spring and summer are prime time for mahi, but Miami's year-round fishery means you've got a shot at them almost any time you head out.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the deep, capable of hitting 60 mph and armed with teeth that'll slice through wire if you're not careful. These torpedo-shaped predators typically weigh between 15 and 50 pounds in our area, and they're known for absolutely crushing trolled baits and lures. The initial run on a wahoo is pure adrenaline – they'll peel line off your reel so fast you'll think something's broken. They're also some of the best eating fish in the ocean, with white, flaky meat that's perfect for the grill. Winter months tend to be most productive for wahoo, but they're around year-round if you're willing to work for them.
Yellowcheek Wrasse might not sound as glamorous as the pelagics, but these colorful reef fish are a blast to catch on lighter tackle and they're part of the diverse ecosystem that makes Miami Beach fishing so special. They're typically found around structure and coral heads, and while they're not huge fighters, they're beautiful fish with vibrant colors that photograph well. They're more of a bonus species you'll encounter while bottom fishing for snapper and grouper, adding variety to your catch and giving the lighter tackle enthusiasts something to smile about.
