5 Hour Private Inshore Fishing Trip
Ready to drop lines in some of Georgia's most productive inshore waters? This 5-hour private charter with Stellar Charters puts you right in the heart of Midway's legendary fishing grounds, where the coastal marshes and tidal creeks hold some serious fish. Captain Hector knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he's built a reputation for putting anglers on fish when others come up empty. Whether you're bringing the family for their first taste of saltwater fishing or you're a seasoned angler looking to bend some rods, this trip delivers the goods. With room for up to 4 guests, you'll have plenty of space to fish comfortably without feeling crowded.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts at the Midway launch, where Captain Hector will get you rigged up and ready to fish. The boat heads out into the maze of tidal creeks and oyster bars that make this stretch of Georgia coast so productive. You'll be working structure - think dock pilings, creek bends, and oyster beds where fish love to ambush baitfish. The captain reads the tides like a book and positions you where the fish are most likely to be feeding. Expect to move around during the trip as different spots produce at different times of the tide. The shallow water fishing here means you can watch your fish fight in crystal clear water, and the scenery of Spanish moss and salt marsh makes for some pretty backdrop while you're waiting for that next strike.
Tackle and Techniques
All your gear is provided, from light spinning tackle perfect for inshore work to the terminal tackle you'll need for different species. You'll be using live bait like shrimp and mud minnows, plus some cut bait when targeting the bigger fish. The technique varies based on what's biting - sometimes you're sight fishing to tailing redfish in skinny water, other times you're working structure with bottom rigs for black drum and sheepshead. Captain Hector adjusts the approach based on conditions and what the fish are telling him. If you've got your own lucky rod, feel free to bring it along, but the provided gear is top-notch and perfectly suited for these waters.
What Anglers Are Saying
"Awesome day on the water we're into fish all day." - Michael
"What an amazing experience with Hector at stellar charters! From the time we booked the trip he was communicating with me and keeping me updated on the schedule, location and weather. We had a bit of weather that came in out of nowhere but Hector still put us and fish and made sure we had a great time. He a great guy and super knowledgeable and passionate on what he does. I will be booking with him again and I highly recommend Stellar Charters!!" - Angel
"I very seldom write a review. Captain Hector is the BEST!!!! I took my son and his best man fishing for the "bachelor party". It was not an ideal day weather wise; the weather man was wrong. Strong winds, white caps in the sound and river, and dark clouds. Captain Hector offered to reschedule for a better day, but we decided to go anyway. The tide was against us most of the day, we ran to several spots throughout the day, and we caught fish. We fished hard all day and put fish in the cooler. Captain Hector turned a 5-hour trip into almost a 9-hour trip at no extra charge just to make sure they had a great day. Both caught the biggest flounder that either one had ever caught. We caught reds, trout, whiting, shark and other small fish. Captain Hector took what should have been a bad day and turned it into a GREAT experience. We are already planning 2 offshore trips in the spring with him. The best charter captain I have had the pleasure to fish with in my 57 years." - Anthony
Target Species Breakdown
Redfish are the bread and butter of these waters, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers love the shallow flats and creek mouths around Midway, especially during moving tides. They'll average 18-25 inches, with some slot fish pushing 27 inches. Spring through fall offers the most consistent action, though winter can produce some monster bull reds. What makes them special is their fight - they'll make long, powerful runs and use their broad sides to pull drag. Plus, they're excellent table fare when kept in the slot limit.
Black drum are the heavyweights of the inshore scene, often called "big uglies" for their appearance but they're anything but ugly when they're bending your rod. These bottom-dwellers love structure like oyster beds and bridge pilings, where they root around for crabs and shellfish. They can range from keeper-sized fish around 16 inches up to massive 40+ pound bulls that will test your tackle and your back. Fall and winter are prime time for the big ones, though smaller fish are around year-round. They're notorious for their subtle bites - you might think you're snagged until that "snag" starts swimming away.
Sheepshead are the technical challenge of inshore fishing, earning the nickname "convict fish" for their black stripes and their ability to steal your bait. These structure-loving fish have human-like teeth that they use to crush barnacles and crabs off dock pilings and oyster bars. They typically run 12-18 inches, with some reaching 20+ inches. Winter months are when they really shine, often when other species slow down. Landing one feels like a victory because they're notorious bait thieves, and their white, flaky meat is considered some of the best eating in the salt.
Bonnethead sharks bring the excitement factor to any trip, especially for kids and first-time saltwater anglers. These smaller members of the hammerhead family average 2-3 feet and are absolutely
