About Nolte Canal, TX

Nolte Canal is found in Liberty County, Texas, and has an elevation of approximately 13 meters. Liberty County is found east of Houston and is bisected by the Trinity River. The canal is also near Beaumont, where the world's largest working fire hydrant is located. Nolte Canal is only 3.0 miles away from East Branch Devers Canal and only 3.1 miles away from Double Gum Island. The nearest locality to Nolte Island is Cottonwood. Anglers can also visit the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge which is 30.3 miles from the canal.

In 1913, the Neches Canal Company filed its water appropriation and stated that the Nolte Canal was one of the branches of the Neches Canal, and was owned by it.

They spawn during late May or early June, and the typical nesting places are holes under mud banks as well as hollow logs. Flounder are best caught during fall as they make their way to the Gulf, from October to December. The spawning season for flounder occurs offshore between November and January, with a peak in December. Sea trout spawn into fresh water during spring and summer, starting in the middle of April and lasting through mid-September. Red drum spawns between the months of August and November. These fish are best caught during the month of September.
