24-Hour Deep Water Fishing Adventure
When you're serious about targeting the big boys offshore, this 24-hour guided trip from Fort Walton Beach is what separates weekend warriors from dedicated anglers. We're talking about a full day and night on the water, heading out to the deep-water oil rigs where the real action happens. This isn't your typical half-day charter – we're going after snapper, tuna, and wahoo in their prime territory, giving you the time needed to truly work these productive waters. With room for up to six anglers and all gear included, you'll have everything you need for this top-rated offshore adventure.
What to Expect on the Water
This trip runs Friday through Sunday, and there's a good reason for that timing – it gives us the weekend window to really capitalize on the best fishing conditions. We'll depart Fort Walton Beach and make the run out to the deep-water structures where these trophy species hang out. The overnight format means we're not rushing back to the dock when the fish start biting at dawn or dusk. You'll experience both the evening bite and the morning action, plus everything in between. The captain knows these waters like the back of his hand, and with a full 24 hours, we can adjust our strategy based on what's working. Some nights the tuna are biting under the lights, other times we're bottom fishing for those deep-dwelling yellowedge grouper. The beauty of this extended trip is the flexibility to adapt and maximize your time where the fish are most active.
Techniques and Tackle
We're fishing the oil rigs and deep-water structure anywhere from 80 to 200+ feet, depending on what we're targeting. For the snapper and grouper, we'll be bottom fishing with circle hooks and heavy tackle to keep these fish from diving back into the structure. When we're after tuna and wahoo, we'll switch to trolling spreads with high-speed lures and ballyhoo. The overnight element lets us try different approaches – we might start with some afternoon trolling, transition to bottom fishing as the sun sets, then switch back to targeting pelagics when they move up in the water column at night. All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included, along with the fuel and licensing. The boat is equipped with quality Penn and Shimano gear that can handle whatever we hook into. We'll have live bait when available, plus a full spread of artificials for different conditions.
Target Species Breakdown
Red Snapper are the bread and butter of these deep-water trips, and Fort Walton Beach sits in prime snapper territory. These fish average 3-8 pounds out here, but don't be surprised when a 15-pounder tests your drag. They're structure-oriented, hanging tight to the rigs and artificial reefs. The best bite often happens right at dawn and dusk, which is why the overnight format works so well. Snapper are aggressive feeders, and once you find a school, the action can be non-stop. They're also excellent table fare, making them a customer favorite for good reason.
Yellowfin Tuna are what every angler dreams about when heading this far offshore. These fish are pure muscle, capable of blistering runs that'll test both your tackle and your endurance. We typically find them in 100+ feet of water, often around the same structures that hold snapper. They can show up any time of day, but the early morning bite is legendary. These fish average 15-40 pounds in our waters, with the occasional bruiser pushing 60+. The fight is what makes yellowfin so special – they'll take you down to the backing and make you earn every inch of line you get back.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the offshore world, hitting trolled baits at 40+ mph and making screaming runs that'll leave your arms aching. They're more common during the cooler months, but we see them year-round around the deeper structures. These fish are built for speed, with razor-sharp teeth and an attitude to match. Most wahoo we catch range from 15-35 pounds, and they're absolutely phenomenal on the grill. The key is being ready when they hit – wahoo don't give you second chances.
Red Grouper are another structure-oriented species that we target on these deep-water trips. They're typically found in 60-120 feet of water, and they're notorious for trying to dive back into the rocks when hooked. These fish can get substantial – 10-20 pounders are common, with fish over 30 pounds always a possibility. They're ambush predators, sitting tight to structure and waiting for an easy meal. The trick is getting them up and away from the bottom before they can wrap you up in the rig.
Mahi Mahi, or dolphinfish, are the wild cards of offshore fishing. They're pelagic fish that roam the open water, often following floating debris or weed lines. When you find a school of mahi, the action can be absolutely electric – they're aggressive, acrobatic, and often travel in groups. They average 5-15 pounds in our waters, with the occasional bull dolphin pushing 30+. Their brilliant colors and aerial displays make them a joy to catch, and they're among the best eating fish in the ocean.
