8 Hour Private Inshore Fishing Charter Louisiana
When you're looking for a serious fishing adventure in Louisiana's legendary waters, Bayou Dularge delivers everything you've heard about and more. This isn't your typical half-day trip – we're talking about a full 8-hour private charter where you and up to three buddies get the entire boat to yourselves. Captain Terry and Captain Elton know these marshes like the back of their hands, and they'll put you on fish that'll have you talking about this trip for years. From shallow grass flats to deeper channels, we'll work the water until we find what's biting, and trust me, something's always hungry in these productive Louisiana waters.
What to Expect on the Water
Your day starts early because that's when the fish are most active, especially during those prime feeding windows. We'll launch from Bayou Dularge and head into some of the most fish-rich waters along Louisiana's coast. The beauty of an 8-hour charter is we've got time to really explore – if one spot's not producing, we'll move to the next honey hole. These captains know every cut, every oyster reef, and every grass bed where fish like to hang out. The marshes here are constantly changing with the tides, creating different opportunities throughout the day. You'll be amazed how the same spot can fish completely different just a few hours later. We provide all the tackle and gear you need, so all you've got to worry about is being ready when that drag starts screaming.
Techniques and Tackle
Inshore fishing in Louisiana is all about reading the water and adapting your approach. We'll be using a mix of live bait like shrimp and croakers, plus artificial lures depending on what the fish are telling us. When we're working shallow flats for redfish, we'll switch to topwater plugs or gold spoons that drive them crazy. For speckled trout, we might drift live shrimp under popping corks or work soft plastics along drop-offs. The key is staying versatile – these fish can be finicky, and what worked yesterday might not work today. That's where having experienced captains makes all the difference. They'll coach you through different techniques, from sight fishing in clear water to working structure in deeper areas. All rods, reels, and tackle are provided, rigged and ready to go with proven setups that consistently produce fish in these waters.

Species You'll Want to Hook
Redfish are the bread and butter of Louisiana inshore fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers fight like freight trains and can be found year-round in our waters. During cooler months, look for them schooled up in deeper holes, while summer finds them cruising shallow flats where you can actually see their backs cutting through the water. A good bull red will test your drag and your patience – they're notorious for making long, powerful runs that'll have your arms burning. The slot-size fish (16-27 inches) are perfect for the dinner table, with firm white meat that's hard to beat.
Speckled trout, or "specks" as we call them locally, are probably the most popular target for Louisiana anglers. These spotted beauties are aggressive feeders and put up a great fight relative to their size. Spring and fall are prime time when they're actively feeding in preparation for spawning or winter. They love structure – oyster reefs, drop-offs, and grass beds are all prime real estate. A good speck will jump and shake its head trying to throw the hook, making every hookup exciting. The larger females, called "sow trout," can push 5-6 pounds and are absolutely gorgeous fish.
Black drum might not win any beauty contests, but they're absolute bruisers that'll give you a workout. These bottom-dwellers can grow massive – we're talking 20, 30, even 40-pound fish that fight like underwater bulldozers. They're bottom feeders, so we'll be using crabs or cut bait on the bottom around oyster reefs and structure. When a big drum takes off, you'll know it immediately. They make slow, powerful runs and use their bulk to their advantage. Smaller "puppy drum" are excellent table fare, while the big bulls are best released to keep the population healthy.
Sheepshead are the pickpockets of the inshore world – they'll steal your bait before you know what happened. These black-and-white striped fish have human-like teeth and love hanging around structure like pilings, rocks, and oyster reefs where they feed on barnacles and crabs. They require finesse and quick reflexes because they're notorious bait thieves. But hook one, and you'll be impressed by their fighting ability. They're also fantastic eating, with firm white meat that's perfect for the grill.
