It was a beautiful spring day in Hume, California, as I guided Jenny Merris and her two young friends, ages 14 and 13, on a fly fishing adventure on the Kings River. April is such a great time for fishing in this area, with the snowmelt bringing that perfect water level and the trout feeding aggressively. As we met up at the Forest Road, I could tell the kids were excited to get out on the water and try their hand at some fly fishing. We started the day working the upper Kings River, using tight line and euro nymphing techniques to search for those hungry Brook Trout and Cutthroat Trout. The kids picked it up fast, and it wasn't long before they were both hooked into some beautiful fish. The action was steady, with the trout smashing our flies and putting up some great fights. In between catches, we took in the stunning Sequoia National Forest scenery and enjoyed the peaceful solitude of the river. As the day went on, we explored a few different creeks and tributaries, trying different flies and techniques to see what the fish wanted. The Cutthroat Trout were especially aggressive, blasting our dries and sending the kids' adrenaline through the roof. It was incredible to see their faces light up every time they landed a fish. By the end of the day, their casts were dialed in, and they were catching fish left and right. I couldn't have been prouder watching them develop their skills and experience the thrill of fly fishing. If you're looking to plan an unforgettable fly fishing adventure in the heart of the Sierras, I highly recommend booking a trip with Hume Fly Fisher. Whether you're an experienced angler or a complete beginner, we'll make sure you have an incredible time on the water, surrounded by stunning scenery and some of the best trout fishing California has to offer. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water with Chris Schmidt, enjoying a Fly Fishing Trip on the Kings River in Hume, CA. March is an excellent time to hit the rivers around here, as the fish become more active with the warmer weather. We met up on Forest Road at 8:00 AM, and even though the morning started with a light rain, it soon gave way to partly cloudy skies - perfect conditions for a day of fly fishing. As we made our way down to the river, I could tell Chris was eager to get his line in the water. We rigged up our rods with the right flies and started working the pools and riffles, looking for the telltale rise of trout. It didn't take long before Chris had his first hit, and after a spirited fight, he brought in a beautiful Rainbow Trout. The Kings River is known for its excellent trout fishing, and we continued to land more throughout the day, employing a variety of Euro nymphing and dry fly techniques to entice the fish. The water clarity was fantastic, allowing us to spot the fish holding in their lies and make precise casts. Between the solid action and the stunning scenery of the canyon, it was the perfect day to be a fly fisherman. We traded stories, swapped tips, and just generally had a great time out on the water, focused on the task at hand but also enjoying the moment. That's what makes these guided trips so special - it's not just about the number of fish caught, but the entire experience. If you're looking to experience some of the best fly fishing California has to offer, I highly recommend booking a Fly Fishing Trip with Hume Fly Fisher. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner just getting into the sport, we'll make sure you have an unforgettable day on the water. Today was a great day out on the water with Jordan Ankenman for a Fly Fishing Trip with Hume Fly Fisher. March is a prime time for fly fishing on the Kings River in the heart of Sequoia National Forest, as the flows and conditions are ideal for targeting Rainbow Trout. We met up early on Forest Road and got geared up to hit the river. The weather was perfect, with partly cloudy skies keeping things comfortable as we waded in. The water was in great shape, and we got set up with our fly rods, ready to work the runs and riffles. It didn't take long before Jordan was into a nice Rainbow Trout, getting a solid hook-up and playing it out expertly. The fish put up a great fight, stripping line and making some acrobatic jumps, but Jordan kept cool and guided it right to the net. Throughout the day, we alternated between dry flies, nymphs, and tight line rigs, adjusting our approach to match the fish's mood. The action stayed consistent, and we managed to land several more Rainbow Trout, each one a blast to reel in. Between the solid fishing and the stunning forest scenery all around us, it was just an all-around great day on the water. If you're looking to experience world-class fly fishing in the heart of the Sequoia National Forest, I highly recommend booking a Fly Fishing Trip with Hume Fly Fisher. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, Scott and his team will make sure you have an unforgettable time on the river, chasing trophy Rainbow Trout in some of the most beautiful surroundings California has to offer. Two and a half weeks travelling around the USA and we unanimously agree our day with Scott was the highlight, among a lot of highlights. A very knowledgeable, communicative and, importantly for us total beginners, patient guide - can't fault Scott in any way, the perfect man to show us the ropes. Plenty of fish caught by us both and confidence built throughout the day too, the sign of a good teacher. Cannot thank Scott enough!

Scott was such a fantastic guide. He made an already special experience SO enjoyable. I couldn't get over how patient he was--he took our family of 3 and managed our inexperience, tangles and hooked lines and with an incredible, optimistic, cheerful attitude. He even spent time showing our son, after a very long day, how to tie a fly. We'll never forget that day and Scott!
