Megalops AtlanticusTarpon fishing here is pure adrenaline - these silver kings average 80-150 pounds and can launch 6 feet out of the water when hooked. We find them rolling in channels, around bridges, and over grass flats in 10-30 feet of water. May through September is prime time, especially on moving tides during new and full moons. What draws anglers back is watching a 100-pound fish go airborne multiple times during the fight. They're not great eating due to all the bones, so it's all about the sport and photos. These fish are ancient - been around 125 million years - and can live 50+ years, so we practice catch and release. My go-to tip: when you see one jump, immediately bow your rod toward the fish.
