Pompano Beach 3-Hour Inshore Fishing Charter
When the offshore waters get too choppy and other boats are calling it quits, we're heading out to where the real action happens – the calm, productive waters of Pompano Beach's Intracoastal Waterway. This 3-hour inshore fishing trip with Reel Floridian Fishin' is your ticket to some of South Florida's most reliable fishing, where we target trophy species like Snook, Tarpon, Crevalle Jack, and Red Snapper without dealing with seasickness or rough conditions. Perfect for up to 5 anglers, this top-rated charter gives you all the excitement of big game fishing while staying comfortable in protected waters.
What to Expect on the Water
We'll meet you at the dock bright and early, where our experienced crew will get you set up with everything you need for a successful day of angling. The Intracoastal Waterway around Pompano Beach is like a highway for fish – structure-rich waters with mangrove shorelines, docks, bridges, and grass flats that hold serious gamefish year-round. You'll be casting to visible structure where Snook ambush baitfish, working the deeper channels for Tarpon, and hitting the flats where Jacks patrol in schools. Our local knowledge means we know exactly where to find fish based on tides, weather, and seasonal patterns. The shallow draft boat lets us get into spots the big offshore rigs can't reach, giving you access to some seriously productive fishing holes that most anglers never see.
Techniques & Tackle Setup
Inshore fishing is all about versatility and reading the water. We'll have you rigged with medium-action spinning gear perfect for the mix of species we're targeting – strong enough to handle a 100-pound Tarpon but sensitive enough to feel a Snook picking up a live shrimp. Depending on what we're seeing, we'll switch between live bait fishing with pinfish, pilchards, and shrimp, and artificial lures like DOA shrimp, topwater plugs, and soft plastics. The crew will teach you how to work mangrove edges, present baits in moving water around bridge pilings, and read the signs when gamefish are feeding. We're constantly moving and adapting – if the Snook bite slows down under the docks, we might run to a grass flat where Jacks are busting bait, or hit a deeper channel where Tarpon are rolling.
Target Species Breakdown
Snook are the crown jewel of South Florida inshore fishing, and Pompano Beach has some of the best Snook habitat you'll find anywhere. These ambush predators love structure – docks, mangroves, bridges, and inlet mouths where they can pin baitfish against the current. Snook are incredibly line-shy and technique-sensitive, which makes hooking one such a rush. They hit hard, jump like crazy, and use their razor-sharp gill plates to cut your line if you're not careful. Best fishing is during the warmer months from April through October, especially around the full and new moon phases when they're most active. A slot-sized Snook between 28-32 inches is pure eating, with white, flaky meat that's perfect for the grill.
Tarpon fishing in the Intracoastal is something every angler needs to experience at least once. These "Silver Kings" can reach over 6 feet and 150 pounds, and when one hits your bait, you'll know it immediately. Tarpon are incredible jumpers – they'll launch themselves completely out of the water multiple times during a fight, shaking their heads and gill-rattling to throw the hook. They're most active during the spring and summer migration from March through August, when massive schools move through our waters. Even though we release all Tarpon, the fight alone is worth the trip. These ancient fish have been around for 50 million years, and battling one on relatively light tackle in shallow water is as good as fishing gets.
Crevalle Jacks are the bulldogs of the inshore waters – pound for pound, they might be the strongest fish you'll hook on this trip. They travel in schools and when you find them feeding, the action can be non-stop. Jacks will hit topwater lures with explosive strikes, and once hooked, they make long, powerful runs that will test your drag system. They're year-round residents but most active during the cooler months from November through March. While they're not great table fare, they're incredible sport fish that will give you a workout. When you see birds diving and bait spraying out of the water, chances are good there's a school of Jacks underneath causing chaos.
Red Snapper in the inshore waters are typically the smaller mangrove snapper, but don't let their size fool you – these guys are smart, finicky, and absolutely delicious. They hang around structure like docks, bridges, and rockpiles, where they pick off crabs, shrimp, and small baitfish. Snapper fishing requires patience and finesse – light leaders, small hooks, and natural presentations. They're notorious bait stealers, so you need to stay alert and set the hook at the first sign of a bite. Available year-round, but they're most cooperative during the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate. Fresh snapper fillets are some of the best eating you'll find, with firm white meat perfect for ceviche or simply grilled with some lime and seasoning.
