Discover excellent freshwater fishing opportunities with a side of Southern hospitality when you take a trip to the rapidly developing city of Adel. Cook County's county seat is famous for being the home of the South Georgia Motorsports Park, but many people outside South Georgia don't know that it's an excellent fishing city. So if you're looking for a relaxing and crowd-free inshore fishing experience in the south, include Adel on your bucket list.
Adel is an ideal vacation spot because it’s easily accessible and has many amenities expected in a modern city, yet it still maintains a friendly village vibe. Whether you're here for one of the SGMP's racing events or an overnight stay at the legendary angler's haven, Live Oak Plantation, you'll quickly fall in love with Adel.
Planning to sample the various inshore fishing experiences you can enjoy all over South Georgia? Make Adel your home base for your fishing trip. It has six interstate lanes running near it, so you can easily drive in and out of the city for quick day trips to nearby fishing hotspots.
But before you go out of Adel, make sure to visit the town's homegrown fishing destinations, the most popular being Reed Bingham State Park. This South Georgia state park is home to a wide variety of habitats, attracting a diverse array of abundant wildlife. Its 375 acre lake, filled with a range of fish species, is a highlight for most visitors. Apart from fishing, visitors can enjoy other outdoor adventure amenities in the park, including trails, campsites, and boat launches for kayaks and canoes.
Serious South Georgia anglers love Live Oak Plantation, and once you visit, you will see why. Within this vast plantation, you will find ten trophy ponds professionally managed by marine biologists. These water bodies are guaranteed to provide healthy habitats for species such as largemouth bass, bluegill or bream, and speckled perch populations.
Georgia’s public fishing areas are all modern and well-maintained. You can easily access some of the south’s best from Adel. One of them is Paradise PFA, located 30 minutes outside the city. It has 60 lakes within its property, many of which are managed for fishing. They’re home to healthy populations of largemouth bass, crappie, shellcracker, bluegill, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, warmouth, and channel catfish.
No trip to Adel will be complete without watching a race at the premier racing facility in the south. SGMP hosts regular events, so make sure to check their website to see if there’s one happening during your trip.
If you’re interested in agritourism, you can't miss out on the Georgia Grown experience. There are various trails you can join. One of them, Georgia Grown Trail 37, is the first of its kind: an officially branded agritourism highway that features family farms, hotspots, vineyards, wineries, and other unique farm experiences.
