Like all the other towns near Cape Cod, Duxbury has plenty of gamefish and history to offer. This historic town was home to some of the early European settlers in the area and was the center of the shipbuilding industry during the 19th century. Being situated in Cape Cod means that striped bass, bluefish, shark, and tuna are just around the corner. And if you think that Duxbury is just a one-trick pony, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that it also has freshwater gamefish swimming in its lakes and streams. Here you’ll find largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and other freshwater gamefish. So if you want to cast your line in Cape Cod, but you don’t want to deal with the crowds of other anglers, give Duxbury a shot.

Duxbury: A Different Fishing Experience

Fishing in Duxbury happens throughout the year. Peak months in the area occur during the spring and summer months, as this is when the fish are most active in the area. Plan your visit from May to October if you want to catch the majority of gamefish biting. But if you really can’t schedule a trip during the summer, there are still gamefish available during winter. You can still catch flounder and tuna during this time, though you will have to cast your lines a little deeper than you would during the summer.  Mid-May to mid-June is fly fishing time in the area, so if you wish to do some fly fishing, visit during these times.

The top fish species to target are:

  • Striped bass: This fish is most common from June to October but is otherwise available in smaller numbers during other months.
  • Bluefish: While they are also common throughout the year, you'll get more from June to September. It will start appearing in numbers by May, then decrease by October.
  • Haddock: It will start appearing around April and will reach peak numbers from May to September. Catching haddock during March or October is prohibited.
  • Yellowfin tuna: They will start appearing in numbers from June until November. This fish will still be available in fair numbers during other months.
  • Bluefin tuna: Begin to appear in numbers in June and will peak from August to October
