The 22-mile lake is a known tributary of Hillsborough Bay. According to the latest records, water levels within Bullfrog Creek can go as deep as approximately 19 ft.

Before 1910, Bullfrog Creek used to be called the “Roosevelt River”. However, a Tampa realtor named W.D. Davis changed its name to “Bullfrog Creek” to market two residential developments as he thought the name was more appealing. Although residents of these subdivisions were aware that the water body’s official name is “Roosevelt River”, the name “Bullfrog Creek” was more widely used, making the name “Roosevelt Rive” disappear into history.
