About Greens Lake, TX

Greens Lake can be found in Galveston County. Running 8 acres in size, this freshwater lake is also referred to as Greens Bayou. Greens Lake sits closeby to several bodies of water, such as Carancahua Lake, Carancahua Bayou, and Carancahua Reef in Jamaica Beach, as well as Basford Bayou and West Bay located in the Village of Tiki island, which is just 5.1 miles away from Greens Lake.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) entitled the Texas General Land Office with the Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund, allowing the commencement of the project of Green’s lakeshore protection and marsh restoration in 2013. The purpose of this fund was to aid in the progression of projects that focused on finding a remedy and reducing the risk of harm to the Gulf Coast natural resources, which were affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. With the partnership between GLO and Ducks Unlimited on behalf of the West Galveston Bay Property Owners group, the erosion that occurred at the northern GIWW shoreline between Greens and Carancahua Lakes along the northwest side of West Galveston Bay was addressed.
