About Lake Jackson, FL

Lake Jackson is a 1,500 acre-lake among the over 50 named lakes in Osceola County, Central Florida. It belongs to the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes that stretches for about 21,000 acres along with the Polk and Osceola Counties include the lakes located from Cypress Lake in the north to Lake Kissimmee in the south. The chain has eight central bodies of water, with Lake Jackson as the most petite body of water. The preceding seven are Lake Kissimmee, Lake Toho, East Toho, Lake Hatchineha, Lake Marion, Lake Marion, Lake Cypress, and Lake Gentry. Historically, the water bodies were connected by broad waterways and sloughs, with the water level fluctuating along with the seasons. However, the construction of newer canals and control structures for flood disrupted the natural water flow. At present, the South Florida Water Management District is responsible for leading the improvement of the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes to foster health and sustainability.

The Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area also surrounds lake Jackson, the second-largest expanse of remaining dry prairie in the United States, just a hundred and ten kilometers south of Kissimmee - Disney World Area. The management area is excellent for recreational activities such as hunting, hiking, birding, and fishing in the nearby bodies of water, including Lake Jackson. The site serves as a habitat for wild turkeys, deers, bobcats, mottled ducks, and bald eagles. You may climb the observation tower that overlooks Lake Jackson and the Sunset ranch walking trail if you want to have optimal experiences for wildlife viewing. Aside from that, the management area also offers wildlife viewing, bicycling, and camping opportunities in the area. If you obtain a no-cost camping permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, you may enjoy any of the five family-sized campsites in the Prairie Lakes Unit.
