Located in Western Long Island and just off Long Island Sound is Manhasset Bay. It is located close to Port Washington and forms the northeastern boundary of the Great Neck Peninsula. Situated in Nassau County, the bay was once called the “shellfish garden of New York City” due to its large beds of clam and oysters. During the 1920s, the town began to focus on an agricultural and fishing economy to supporting commercial boating. By the 1980s, Manhasset Bay was filled with yacht clubs and marinas.
