About The Palma Sola Bay

About Palma Sola Bay, FL

Palma Sola is one of Florida’s spectacularly known embayments near South Bradenton. Extending to about 3,236 acres across Manatee County, this bay is covered by Tampa Bay and is situated on the western side of the state. “Palma Sola” directly translates to “Solitary Palm” which refers to a historic palm positioned close to Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island. This landmark was used as an indicator by sailors back then to guide themselves into Anna Maria Sound as well as Palma Sola Bay.

This bay serves as a home to sea turtles as they come ashore to nest in its sandy beaches. Because of the frequent sea turtle visits, nesting sites have been established by the placement of orange flags from local wildlife groups to aid in ensuring the safety of these creatures. Palma Sola Bay holds its popularity specifically for being one of the prized preserves in terms of natural wildlife. Together with sea turtles, fish, and several bird species, the bay also possesses tons of lovely plant species.
