4 HR Inshore Fishing Adventure
Port Aransas offers some of the best inshore fishing on the Texas coast, and this 4-hour adventure with Bowed Up Fishing Charter puts you right in the heart of it all. Captain Jason knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he's ready to show you why anglers travel from all over to cast lines in our productive inshore waters. Whether you're a seasoned angler or this is your first time holding a rod, you'll be targeting trophy redfish, aggressive jack crevalle, and even sharks right from the surf. With room for up to 7 guests, this trip works perfect for families, friends, or anyone looking to experience what makes Port Aransas fishing so special.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical boat charter – you'll be fishing from the beach and surf, which gives you a completely different perspective on inshore angling. Captain Jason sets up everything you need, from rods and tackle to bait and coolers, so you can focus on what matters most: catching fish. The beauty of surf fishing is the variety – one cast might bring in a solid redfish while the next could hook into a powerful shark. You'll learn techniques specific to beach fishing, including how to read the surf, where fish like to hold, and the best ways to present your bait. Between the action, there's plenty of time to relax on the beach, and Captain Jason keeps things fun with activities and stories that make the time fly by.
Techniques and Tackle Setup
Surf fishing requires a different approach than fishing from a boat, and Captain Jason has it dialed in. You'll be using heavy surf rods capable of casting beyond the breakers, paired with circle hooks and fresh bait that the local fish can't resist. For shark fishing, the setup gets even more serious – think heavy tackle, steel leaders, and chunks of fresh bait that'll draw in everything from bonnetheads to bull sharks. The captain teaches you how to read the water conditions, spot feeding fish, and time your casts with the waves. You'll learn about different rigs for different species, from bottom rigs for redfish and black drum to the specialized shark rigs that can handle serious horsepower when something big takes the bait.
Customer Stories
"My family had an amazing time! Captain Jason was fantastic with our four boys, ranging from teens to elementary age. While we set the lines for shark fishing, he kept them entertained with a few activities, and we relaxed on the beach. We swam a bit, though the jellyfish made it short-lived! He also set up regular fishing poles in the sand and taught them how to fish from the shore, which they loved. We do a lot of freshwater fishing back in Iowa, so it was really fun for them to learn a new way of fishing. Captain Jason was happy to stay as late as we wanted, hoping to land a shark, but we had to head out around 11 pm because the mosquitoes were unbearable, and we had an early start the next day. We didn't catch a shark, but it was still an incredible experience!" - Stacy
"We had an amazing time and learned so much about the process of catching sharks. Definitely looking forward to doing it again! We managed to land a 7ft bull shark, and it was an unforgettable experience. Some great memories were made for sure!" - Heather
"We were looking for a way to avoid fishing on a boat, and shark fishing with Jason was incredible. He had everything set up for us and more. While we waited for a bite, we even got to play football on the beach. It was a great way to spend the day, and Jason made sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic experience." - Evan
Species You'll Want to Hook
Redfish are the bread and butter of Port Aransas inshore fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored fighters typically run 20 to 35 inches in our waters, with the bigger bulls putting up fights that'll test your drag system. They're most active during the cooler parts of the day and love to cruise the surf looking for crabs and mullet. What makes redfish so popular is their willingness to eat and their never-give-up attitude once hooked. They'll make powerful runs and use their broad sides to fight in the current, giving you a workout that's worth every second.
Bonnethead sharks might be the smaller cousins in the shark family, but don't let their size fool you. These 2 to 4-foot sharks are perfect for first-time shark anglers and kids who want to experience the rush without the intimidation factor of larger species. They're active year-round in our waters and have a unique shovel-shaped head that makes them easy to identify. Bonnetheads are great fighters for their size and provide the perfect introduction to shark fishing techniques and handling.
Blacktip sharks bring the real excitement to surf fishing. These athletic predators typically range from 3 to 6 feet in our area and are famous for their aerial displays when hooked. They'll often jump completely out of the water multiple times, spinning and thrashing in spectacular fashion. Spring through fall offers the best blacktip action, especially when baitfish are thick in the surf. Their speed and acrobatics make every hookup a memorable experience that gets your adrenaline pumping.
Crevalle jack, or jack crevalle as they're commonly called, are the bulldozers of the inshore world. These silver missiles can weigh anywhere from 5 to 25 pounds and fight like fish twice their size. They travel in schools and can turn a quiet day into non-stop action when they move through. Jacks are most active during warmer months and are known for their aggressive strikes and bulldogging runs that test your tackle to the limit. They're not the prettiest fish in the ocean, but pound-for-pound, few species fight harder.
