Panama City Beach Inshore Charter – Top Catches
Looking for a solid inshore fishing experience without the hassle of crowds? This private 4-hour charter with Destin's Boggy Bayou Inshore Charters puts you right where the fish are biting in Panama City Beach. We'll spend the morning working the calm, productive waters of West Bay and its connected bayous – some of the most consistent fishing grounds on the Gulf Coast. With departure at 7:00 AM sharp, you'll beat the boat traffic and catch fish during their most active feeding periods. Limited to just 4 anglers max, you get the personalized attention that makes the difference between coming home with stories and coming home with dinner.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical head boat experience where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers. We keep groups small so everyone gets plenty of rod time and one-on-one coaching when needed. The trip targets the bread-and-butter species that make inshore fishing so addictive – Redfish, Sea Trout, Black Drum, and Sheepshead. These fish are year-round residents in our bay system, which means consistent action regardless of the season. The shallow, protected waters of West Bay offer perfect conditions for beginners while still providing enough challenge to keep seasoned anglers engaged. All your gear, licenses, and bait come included, so you can focus on what matters most: getting your line wet and having a good time on the water.
Techniques & Tackle
We fish these bayous using light tackle methods that maximize both the fight and your chances of success. Most of our fishing happens in 3-8 feet of water around grass flats, oyster bars, and creek mouths where baitfish congregate. Live shrimp and cut bait are our go-to choices, rigged on jig heads or fish-finder rigs depending on what the fish are telling us. You'll learn to read the water – spotting nervous baitfish, watching for bird activity, and identifying structure that holds fish. We also work artificial lures when conditions are right, throwing soft plastics and spoons around shallow cover. The beauty of bayou fishing is its versatility; we can sight-fish tailing Redfish in skinny water one moment, then drop down to target Black Drum around deeper structure the next.
Top Catches This Season
Redfish are the stars of the show in these waters, and for good reason. These copper-colored fighters average 18-27 inches and put up scrappy battles that'll test your drag system. They're most active during moving tides, especially around dawn when we're getting started. You'll find them cruising grass flats and ambushing prey around oyster points. What makes Redfish so special is their year-round availability and willingness to eat – they're not nearly as finicky as some other species.
Crevalle Jack bring pure power to the fight, often showing up in schools that create non-stop action. These silver torpedoes range from 2-8 pounds in our area and hit lures with authority. They're most common during warmer months and often signal the presence of baitfish schools. When you hook into a good Jack, expect line-peeling runs and dogged resistance right to the boat.
Spanish Mackerel add speed and aggression to your trip, typically running 1-3 pounds with razor-sharp teeth and lightning-fast strikes. They're seasonal visitors, usually showing up in good numbers from late spring through early fall. These fish are excellent table fare and provide non-stop action when they're around, often hitting before you know what happened.
Bluefish are another seasonal favorite that brings excitement to every trip. These voracious predators travel in schools and create feeding frenzies that every angler dreams about. They're most common in fall and winter, often mixed with Spanish Mackerel schools. Blues fight hard and make excellent cut bait for larger species.
Black Drum round out our target list as the heavyweights of the bunch. These bottom-dwellers can range from 2-20 pounds and are famous for their bulldogging fights. They're most active around structure like bridge pilings, oyster bars, and channel edges. Black Drum are excellent eating in the smaller sizes and provide memorable battles when you hook into a big one.
