What’s Biting in Tampa Bay: Your Weekly Fishing Rundown
Summer fishing is heating up across Tampa Bay, and the action is steady inshore and offshore. Inshore: Snook are stacked up around the mangroves, seawalls, and passes. Early mornings and evenings are producing the most bites, especially on live sardines and pinfish. Slot-size fish are common, and there's plenty of catch-and-release fun as well. Redfish are showing up in better numbers, especially on the flats near Weedon Island and Fort De Soto. They're taking cut bait and soft plastics. Keep an eye out for tailing reds on early morning tides. Speckled trout are biting over grass flats in 3–5 feet of water. Smaller trout are more common, but there are some gators mixed in—especially around sunrise. Try a popping cork rig with shrimp or artificial lures like DOA CALs. Nearshore: Tarpon are the stars of the show right now. The beaches are seeing steady schools moving north, and anglers are getting solid hookups on live crabs and threadfin herring. Look for rolling fish just off the sand, especially at first light and on the outgoing tide. Spanish mackerel and bonito are also thick near the shipping channel and along the Skyway. Cast small spoons or flashy jigs into the feeding frenzies for nonstop action.

Snook Slam on the Tampa Bay Inshore Fishing Adventure
What a day we had out on the water in Tampa Bay! The weather was just beautiful, with clear skies and calm conditions that made for a super comfortable trip. As an expert guide with Ebb & Flow Charters, I was excited to take Justin Cox out for our Private 4 Hour Fishing Trip. April is a prime time to be fishing the inshore and nearshore waters around Tampa, with the warming temps and baitfish moving in bringing the game fish close to the surface. We started the day by trying a variety of techniques - casting, drifting live baits, working topwater lures - to see what the fish were responding to. It didn't take long before Justin's rod bent over hard, and he was into his first Common Snook of the day. That fish put up an incredible fight, stripping line and making some great aerial displays, but Justin stayed cool and managed to land it. From there, the action just kept getting better - we found some nice schools of Snook and Justin was able to hook into several more throughout the trip, each one a thrill to reel in. The best part was just being out on the water, breathing in the salty air and taking in the beautiful Tampa Bay scenery. In between the exciting Snook bites, we got to relax and enjoy the peaceful setting, swapping stories and laughs.
