12 Hour Offshore Trolling Trip
Ready to test your skills against some of the ocean's most prized gamefish? This 12-hour private charter takes serious anglers up to 70 miles offshore where the big fish live. You'll be targeting trophy species like Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, and both Blue and White Marlin from a well-equipped 32' Albemarle. This isn't your typical half-day trip – we're talking about a full day of high-octane fishing designed for anglers who want to hook into multiple species and potentially land the fish of a lifetime.
What to Expect on the Water
We leave early to maximize our time in the productive offshore waters, and trust me, you'll want every minute we can get out there. The 32' Albemarle is perfectly sized for this type of fishing – stable enough to handle the open ocean but nimble enough to chase down fast-moving schools. You'll have up to 5 other anglers with you, which creates a great energy on deck when fish start hitting multiple lines. The boat comes with a private head, so comfort isn't an issue during the long day. Your First Mate will be working non-stop to keep you in fish – rigging baits, clearing lines, and getting you back in the water quickly after each hookup. These guys know their stuff and earn every bit of that 20% tip. Pack your own food and drinks because you'll work up an appetite, but everything else from tackle to bait is handled.
Trolling Tactics & Top-Tier Gear
We run a serious spread of high-end trolling gear designed specifically for offshore gamefish. Think heavy conventional reels spooled with quality line, matched to rods that can handle everything from 20-pound Mahi to 200-pound Bluefin. The boat carries an arsenal of proven lures – ballyhoo combinations, cedar plugs, diving plugs, and spreader bars that have been putting fish in the boat for years. We'll be covering water at trolling speed, usually between 6-10 knots depending on conditions and what we're targeting. The beauty of trolling this far offshore is variety – one minute you might be fighting a screaming Wahoo, the next you could be locked up with a stubborn Yellowfin. We adjust our spread based on water temperature, current breaks, and what the fish are telling us. When we find active water, we'll work it hard, sometimes pulling in multiple hookups that'll test everyone's skills.
Target Species You'll Want to Hook
King Mackerel are speed demons that'll test your reflexes and your drag system. These fish typically run 15-40 pounds in our waters, though bigger ones show up regularly. They're notorious for long, blistering runs that can peel off 100 yards of line before you know what hit you. Kings are most active during warmer months and love structure edges and current breaks. What makes them special is their unpredictability – they might hit a bait gently or slam it like a freight train. Either way, once hooked, they put on an aerial show that gets everyone on deck excited.
Mahi Mahi bring pure fun to offshore fishing with their brilliant colors and acrobatic fights. Most fish run 10-25 pounds, perfect for multiple hookups when you find a good school. They're attracted to floating debris, current lines, and anything that looks different in the open ocean. Mahi are most abundant during spring and summer months when water temperatures climb. What anglers love about these fish is their willingness to bite and their spectacular jumps – plus they're outstanding table fare. When we find a school, we'll often catch several before they move on.
Wahoo are the rockets of the ocean, capable of speeds over 60 mph and runs that'll make your reel sing. These fish typically range 20-60 pounds in our area, with their razor-sharp teeth and sleek build making them perfect predators. They prefer deeper, clearer water and are often found around drop-offs and current edges. Peak season varies by location, but they're generally most active in cooler months. Wahoo fights are intense but relatively short – they'll make one or two scorching runs then come to the boat. The excitement comes from that initial strike and the knowledge that you've hooked one of the ocean's fastest fish.
Yellowfin Tuna are the workhorses of offshore fishing, combining size, strength, and stamina into one package. Fish typically range 30-100 pounds, though larger specimens show up regularly. They're found in warmer offshore waters and are most active during summer months. Yellowfin fights are legendary – long, powerful runs followed by deep, stubborn battles that can last 30 minutes or more. They're also exceptional table fare, making them doubly rewarding to catch. What makes Yellowfin special is their consistency – when conditions are right, you can expect multiple shots at quality fish.
Bluefin Tuna represent the ultimate offshore challenge, with fish ranging from school-sized 20-pounders to giants exceeding 200 pounds. These fish are incredibly strong and smart, often requiring perfect presentations and expert boat handling to hook and land. They're most active in cooler months and prefer deeper, nutrient-rich waters. Bluefin fights are brutal affairs that can last hours for larger fish. They're highly prized both for sport and table fare, making them the holy grail for many offshore anglers. The chance at a trophy Bluefin is worth the price of admission alone.
