4hr Inshore Fishing Trip – Most Popular
Looking for that perfect balance between having enough time to really get into some fish and not spending your whole day on the water? This 4-hour Clearwater inshore charter hits the sweet spot for most anglers. Whether you're bringing the kids for their first taste of saltwater fishing or you're a seasoned angler wanting to dial in your technique, this trip gives us the flexibility to adapt to whatever the fish are doing that day. We'll hit multiple spots, work with the tides instead of against them, and keep you on active fish while the bite is hot.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't a rush job where we hit one spot and call it good. Four hours gives us real fishing time – enough to move around when we need to, stay put when the fish are cooperative, and actually teach you something about reading these waters. We'll start by checking conditions and tide movement, then head to areas where the fish have been most active. Some days that means working the grass flats for tailing reds, other times we're pitching jigs around docks and mangroves for snook. The beauty of this trip length is we can do both if the bite calls for it. You'll get hands-on instruction on technique, learn to spot fish in shallow water, and understand why certain areas hold fish at different tide stages. Perfect for families since we can adjust the intensity – keep it simple and fun for younger anglers or get technical with the adults who want to level up their game.
Techniques and Tackle
We fish light tackle exclusively on these inshore trips – typically 15-20lb spinning gear that gives you a real fight without being too heavy for the kids to handle. Depending on what we're targeting, we'll be throwing everything from live shrimp under corks to soft plastic jigs and topwater plugs when the fish are aggressive. Sight fishing is a huge part of the Clearwater inshore experience, so we'll spend time on the poling platform scanning the flats for cruising fish. When we spot them, it's all about precise casting and quiet presentation. Structure fishing around docks, bridges, and oyster bars requires a different approach – we'll work these areas methodically, showing you how to read the water and identify fish-holding spots. The tackle box stays stocked with what's working, and we'll switch up techniques throughout the trip to keep you learning and the fish interested.
Top Catches This Season
Redfish are the bread and butter of Clearwater inshore fishing, and for good reason. These copper-colored bruisers run anywhere from schoolie size up to bull reds that'll test your drag system. Spring and fall see the most consistent action, but we catch them year-round in these waters. What makes reds so exciting is their willingness to eat in shallow water where you can watch the whole thing happen – seeing that wake push toward your bait never gets old. They're also perfect for teaching proper fish handling since they're hardy and photograph well before release.
Snook fishing around Clearwater is world-class, especially during the warmer months when they're most active. These ambush predators love structure – docks, mangrove shorelines, bridges – anywhere they can pin baitfish against cover. A good snook will make multiple runs, often jumping and gill-rattling to throw the hook. They're incredibly photogenic with that distinctive black lateral line and can range from skinny schoolies to thick 30+ inch fish that'll give you a workout. Summer evenings are prime time, but we catch them throughout the day on these charters.
Spotted seatrout might not be the flashiest fish, but they're reliable biters and great for building confidence, especially with newer anglers. They school up over grass flats and around structure, often giving you multiple hookups once you locate them. Trout are also excellent table fare if you're looking to take a few home for dinner. They respond well to both live bait and artificials, making them perfect for experimenting with different presentations.
Spanish mackerel show up in numbers during certain times of year, usually in the cooler months around Clearwater. When they're here, the action can be non-stop – these speedsters hit hard and fast, making them incredibly fun on light tackle. They're also one of the best eating fish in these waters when prepared fresh. Look for bird activity and baitfish schools, and the mackerel won't be far behind.
Tarpon are the holy grail of inshore fishing, and Clearwater sees good numbers during their seasonal migrations. Even the smaller tarpon we encounter inshore – usually in the 20-50 pound range – will give you a fight you won't forget. Their acrobatic jumps and powerful runs make every hookup memorable. While we can't keep tarpon, the experience of fighting one of these silver kings is worth the trip alone. Best chances are late spring through early fall when they're moving through our area.
Tripletail are one of the more unique species we target around Clearwater. These odd-looking fish like to hang around floating debris, channel markers, and crab trap buoys. They're ambush feeders with excellent camouflage, often looking like floating leaves until they move. What makes tripletail special is their excellent eating quality and the challenge of getting them to bite – they can be finicky and require precise presentations. When you do hook one, they're strong fighters that use their broad body profile to their advantage.
