I am Captain Scott Pierce, a master fishing and hunting guide who owns and operates Texas Coastal Adventures based in Port O’Connor, Texas. In 1976, I moved from California to Texas to become a full-time guide. I started as a duck and goose hunting guide in Garwood, Texas. That place was the ‘Goose Hunting Capital of the World’ during the 80s. When the 2000s came, I bought a bay boat because I loved Port O’Connor. The community is known for its fishing because it is surrounded by miles of coastline overlooking the Gulf Coast. It’s my favorite place in the world! Since relocating to Port O’Connor, I have gotten to enjoy the best of both worlds; shooting ducks and geese and catching a lot of fish!
My early fishing days consisted of catching steelhead trout from the American River. I grew up in Sacramento, California, where the river would be within walking distance of my school. I remember when classes would end for the day, I would go straight to the river and try to hook and reel in some fish.
I have been a professional and master fishing guide for over three decades, so you know that I know my way around Port O’Connor. I focus on wade fishing for various species because I love fishing from the coast. Hence the name of my hunting and fishing charters.
My favorite place in the world is Port O’Connor, Texas. It is because I get to do two of the things that I love the most here; hunting and fishing. This coastal community allows those with a hunting license or fishing license to shoot a limited amount of ducks or fish for a limited number of sea trout and redfish, all in the same day! It’s not uncommon to see people enjoy both the fun of hunting and fishing here in Port O’Connor.
This coastal community is called ‘The Best Kept Secret of the Gulf Coast due to its scenic beaches, wildlife, water sports, and breathtaking sunset view of the Gulf of Mexico. There are plenty of places for an angler to catch fish here because most of its area is surrounded by water. With my guide service, we would primarily chase trout, redfish, black drum, southern flounder, and everything else that bites from the Texas coast. I only make wade fishing trips because I believe it produces better results for the species we’re targeting. Expect to use techniques such as fly fishing and light tackle fishing to bag these feisty fish.
For those who double as hunters, Port O’Connor is abundant with wildlife that can be your next target. I’m a duck hunting guide, so if you book with me, we would solely target these waterfowl creatures. It’s some of the finest coastal duck hunting you’ll experience! If you’re curious about what other game Port O’Connor can offer hunters, you can also hunt for different types of waterfowl, geese, deer, Black Hawaiian sheep, Russian boar, Scimitar oryx, and alligators. If you go duck hunting with me, expect to have the chance to shoot over 15 species of ducks, including redhead ducks, widgeons, pintails, and gadwalls. There’s no need to worry for those who want to hunt during the winter because our weather here is usually milder.
A trip with me and my guide service means I can show you exciting outdoor adventures on the Texas Coast. Rest assured that you’re in good hands with me because I’ve tried everything Port O’Connor and nearby areas have to offer over the 30 years I’ve been a guide. You can also count on me for a productive and safe trip on the waters. I'll work hard to put you on the limited amount of fish we can bag so you can feel that sense of pride and accomplishment when you bring them home!
My decades of experience make me the perfect guide for beginner and experienced anglers. I’ll show you the ins and outs of successfully catching various games from the local waters so you can learn more about why I use the techniques I am an expert in. I also welcome families and kids to come along and join the fun.
All the guided hunting and fishing trips I carry out are wade trips, so hunters and anglers alike should expect to catch their targets from the shore or water and not from a boat. Full-day wade fishing trips can only be availed by adults. Despite this, we would still get onboard my 23’ Haynie Big Foot Bay boat, which can hold up to 5 guests. This is where we will keep and find all the gear and equipment needed for our trips. It has modern hunting and safety equipment to keep you dry and safe. It’ll take us to the best hunting and fishing locations in no time! Some areas I like to take anglers to are the Gulf of Mexico, Colorado River, Robbins Slough, and Mad Island Lake.
Texas Coastal Adventures will provide you with everything you’ll need for a productive day of fishing. You don’t need to worry about bringing your own fishing gear because we’ll have rods, reels, tackle, bait, and lures ready for you. Additional costs for bait will apply. For duck hunting trips, guns will be provided. All you need to bring is the proper license, tags for your catches, and steel duck hunting shots in sizes 2 and 4. I also advise you to carry a raincoat, waders, gloves, camo hat, face mask, and sunscreen. For any trip you book with me, don’t forget to bring snacks and positive energy!
Check out Port O’Connor next time you look for a fantastic fishing and hunting paradise. Book your next trip with Texas Coastal Adventures and experience everything this area of Texas has to offer! Reward yourself with a unique experience, and I’ll see you here!
