Tucked into the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains is the small town of Allgood in Alabama. It was said that the original name of the city was Chepultepec. However, it was changed to “Allgood” when a local businessman complained to the local postman about poor business, alleging that the complicated spelling of the original name made it difficult for him to communicate to his clients and vice versa.

In 1959, Allgood was formally incorporated. Today, it is home to a population of almost 600 residents who created a warm and welcoming community. Anglers who will pass by this town in the United States will feel the bright and uplifting environment.

Allgood Fishing: A Peaceful Experience

Allgood in Blount County, Alabama, does not have water bodies where fish can be sourced. However, what it lacks due to its location, it makes up for with its approachable Allgood residents and proximity to surrounding areas that have waterways abundant in diverse fish species.

The Coosa River watershed starts in Tennessee and Georgia and ends at Weiss Lake in Alabama. The water is inherently fertile, and the watershed receives additional nutrients from diverse land uses. The Coosa River is only partially free-flowing. Weiss Lake, Neely Henry Lake, Logan Martin Lake, Lay Lake, Mitchell Lake, and Lake Jordan are six Alabama Power Company dams that impound the Coosa River before meeting the Tallapoosa River to form the Alabama River. The 180,000-acre Bankhead National Forest crowns the western side of the lake's watershed. From Bank Head National Forest, the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River flows to form Smith Lake, Alabama's only wild and scenic river. The lake's depths can reach 300 feet, and more than 40 pounds of striped bass can be found there. Other fish caught here are largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie.
