Kissimmee is a city nestled right in the heart of Central Florida, just a few miles south of Orlando. Although it doesn’t have the famous theme parks of its neighboring city, Kissimmee makes up for it with outdoor recreational activities. The city is surrounded by state parks and bodies of water which not only provide visitors with relaxing outdoor activities, it also offers a front-row seat to the world-renowned Floridian flora and fauna.

Kissimmee is also known as a family-oriented vacation spot. With so many fun things to do like boating, hiking, and fishing. Its proximity to theme parks, spending a fun day or two in Disney World, SeaWorld, Gatorland, LEGOLAND, Universal Orlando, or Fun Spot America is just a few minutes away by car.

When it comes to accommodations, Kissimmee can offer you the best of both worlds. If vacation for you means lounging by the pool in a luxurious resort, there are several world-class hotels in the city you can choose from. If, however, you and your family are outdoor types, there are campgrounds and RV parks within the state parks right around the city’s outskirts. Vacation homes are also scattered all over the city, perfect for family outings.

Kissimmee, FL: Bass Fishing Paradise

One of the favorite outdoor activities in Kissimmee is sportfishing. That’s because the city is blessed with lakes, creeks, and other bodies of water that not only carry high-quality fishing targets but also provide a great view of the Floridian natural beauty.

One such amazing fishing spot is Lake Tohopekaliga or Lake Toho, located in the city's southern boundaries. This lake measures around 18,000 acres and features clear waters and several small islands. The lake also features a fairly vegetated underwater habitat that provides shelter to a wide array of game fish, including smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish.

On the south-eastern outskirts of the city lies another fishing spot called East Lake Toho. This lake is smaller and connected to the larger Toho via a canal. This means that it pretty much carries the same species of fish. The only difference (aside from the size) between the two is that the smaller Toho’s water is significantly clearer, and it doesn’t have as much underwater vegetation.

Now, if you go a bit farther south, you will find Kissimmee Lake, one of the top bass fishing locations in the country. In fact, largemouth bass and smallmouth bass as large as 18 pounds are said to be easy pickings here. And not only does the Kissimmee lake ensure quality but quantity as well with the location’s high catch rates as regularly reported by fishing authorities. This is also where the Florida Bass Federation Tour and the Bassmaster Classic, two of the most popular bass fishing tournaments in the country, are held every year.
