Deep Sea Fishing NJ | 14 Hour Charter Trip
Looking for a serious offshore fishing adventure that'll have you talking for months? This 14-hour deep sea charter with Shoot'em Sportfishing takes you up to 80 miles off the New Jersey coast, where the real trophy fish live. We're talking about targeting some of the most sought-after pelagic species in the Atlantic - Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Bigeye Tuna, and Golden Tiles. With space for up to 6 anglers, you'll have plenty of room to work without feeling crowded when the action heats up.
What to Expect on the Water
This isn't your typical half-day trip close to shore. We're departing at 2 AM sharp to make the most of prime fishing hours and get you to where the big fish are feeding. The early start might sound brutal, but trust me - when you're hooked up to a 100-pound Yellowfin at sunrise, you'll understand why we leave when most people are still asleep. We'll have you back at the dock by 3:30-4 PM, giving you a full day on the water without missing dinner with the family. The boat heads out into true blue water territory, sometimes running 80 miles offshore to find the temperature breaks and current edges where these pelagic species congregate. You'll see the water change from that murky green inshore color to the deep cobalt blue of the open ocean - that's when you know you're in fish country. The ride out gives everyone time to rig up, grab some coffee, and get mentally prepared for what could be the fishing day of a lifetime.
Techniques & Tackle
We specialize in jigging and popping - two of the most effective and exciting ways to target tuna and other offshore species. Jigging involves dropping heavy metal lures down to where the fish are holding and working them with sharp, vertical rod movements to mimic injured baitfish. Popping is surface action at its finest - throwing large topwater lures and creating a commotion that drives fish absolutely crazy. When they explode on a popper, your heart will skip a beat. We also mix in trolling with spreader bars and daisy chains when conditions call for it, plus flat lining live and dead baits near structure. All tackle, rods, reels, and bait are provided, so you don't need to worry about bringing anything except your fishing license and plenty of energy. We're talking about heavy-duty gear here - 50 to 80-pound class tackle that can handle the power of these offshore bruisers. The reels are spooled with enough line to let a big Bluefin make its initial screaming run without worrying about getting spooled.
Target Species
Yellowfin Tuna are the bread and butter of our offshore trips, and for good reason. These fish are pure muscle, fighting hard from the moment they feel the hook until they're in the boat. Yellowfins in our waters typically run 30 to 100 pounds, with the occasional cow pushing 150 pounds or more. They're most active during dawn and dusk, but can be caught throughout the day when you find them feeding. What makes Yellowfin so special is their combination of speed, power, and incredible table fare - sashimi-grade meat that'll rival anything you get at a high-end restaurant.
Bluefin Tuna are the holy grail of New Jersey offshore fishing. These are the fish that legends are made of, capable of reaching weights over 200 pounds in our waters. Bluefins are incredibly smart and strong, often requiring teamwork between angler and crew to land successfully. They're more common during the cooler months, but when you hook into one, you'll never forget it. The initial run of a big Bluefin will test both your skill and your equipment to the absolute limit.
Mahi Mahi bring the color and acrobatics to your fishing day. These stunning fish with their electric blues, greens, and golds are known for their spectacular jumps and fast runs. They typically show up during the warmer months and love to hang around floating debris, weed lines, and temperature breaks. Mahi are aggressive feeders and often travel in schools, so when you find one, there are usually more around. They're also fantastic eating, with firm white meat that's perfect on the grill.
Wahoo are the speed demons of the offshore world, capable of reaching speeds over 60 mph. These torpedo-shaped fish have razor-sharp teeth and a attitude to match. They're known for long, blistering runs that will test your drag system and your nerves. Wahoo can show up any time of year in our waters, but fall seems to be prime time. Their flaky, mild meat makes them a favorite among charter customers who want something different from the usual tuna fare.
Bigeye Tuna are the night shift workers of the tuna family, often biting best in low light conditions or when we're fishing deep structure. They're built like footballs - short and incredibly thick through the shoulders. Bigeyes are known for their stamina and ability to sound deep when hooked, testing both angler endurance and equipment. They're less common than Yellowfins but highly prized for their exceptional meat quality and the challenge they present.
