Deep Sea Fishing NJ | 14 Hour Charter Trip
Looking for the real deal when it comes to offshore fishing in New Jersey? This 14-hour deep sea adventure with Shoot'em Sportfishing Charters takes you where the big fish live – up to 80 miles out into the Atlantic's richest waters. We're talking about a serious fishing trip here, not some harbor cruise. You'll be targeting trophy Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna, lightning-fast Mahi Mahi, and those prized Golden Tiles that most anglers only dream about. With space for just 6 anglers, this isn't a crowded party boat situation – it's a focused fishing mission where everyone gets quality time on the water and a real shot at fish of a lifetime.
What to Expect on the Water
We're not messing around with departure times – this trip kicks off at 2am sharp, getting you to the prime fishing grounds while other boats are still tied to the dock. That early start means you'll be dropping lines when the fish are most active, and you'll have the spots to yourself. The 14-hour window gives us plenty of time to work multiple areas and adapt to what the fish are telling us. Expect to return between 3:30-4pm, tired but hopefully with coolers full of quality fish. The boat's equipped for the long haul with everything you need to stay comfortable during those extended offshore runs. We can adjust departure times if your group has special requests, but trust me – the early bird gets the tuna out here. The ride out takes time, but once you see the deep blue water and start marking fish, you'll understand why we make the journey.
Techniques & Tackle
We fish smart out here, using a mix of jigging, popping, trolling, and flat lining that's proven effective on these Jersey waters. Jigging and popping are our bread and butter – there's nothing like watching a massive tuna slam a surface popper or feeling that distinctive thump of a fish hitting your jig on the drop. We'll troll when we're covering water and looking for active fish, then switch to the vertical presentations when we mark them on the finder. All your tackle, rods, reels, and bait are provided, and I'm talking about quality gear that can handle whatever we hook into. The rods are matched to the techniques we're using – heavy spinning gear for the jigging work, conventional setups for trolling, and everything rigged with the right terminal tackle for these species. You don't need to bring anything except your fishing license and maybe some snacks for the long day. We've got circle hooks where appropriate, quality leaders, and fresh bait that gets the fish fired up.
Top Catches This Season
Yellowfin Tuna are the workhorses of our offshore trips, and these New Jersey waters produce some serious fish. These guys typically run 30-80 pounds out here, with occasional jumbo fish pushing triple digits. Yellowfins are aggressive feeders that love both bait and artificials, making them perfect targets for our jigging and trolling techniques. Peak season runs from June through October, with the biggest fish usually showing up in the late summer months. What makes them special? They fight like freight trains, taste amazing, and you never know when you might hook into a true giant. Bluefin Tuna are the holy grail – these are the fish that make grown anglers cry tears of joy. Jersey's Bluefin fishing has exploded in recent years, with fish ranging from school-size 30-pounders up to true giants over 200 pounds. They're incredibly smart and powerful, requiring finesse and skill to land consistently. Most of our Bluefin action happens from May through November, with different size classes moving through at different times.
Mahi Mahi bring the color and acrobatics to your offshore day – these electric green and gold beauties are pure excitement on light tackle. Jersey Mahi typically run 5-20 pounds, though we occasionally see bulls pushing 30-plus. They love structure and floating debris, so we're always scanning for weed lines and temperature breaks. These fish are aggressive, beautiful, and absolutely delicious on the dinner table. Wahoo are the speed demons of the offshore world, capable of blistering runs that'll test your drag system and your nerves. These toothy predators can stretch 4-6 feet and hit trolled baits like lightning bolts. Bigeye Tuna are the night shift workers – these deep-dwelling fish often bite best in low light conditions, making them perfect targets during our early morning and late afternoon fishing windows. They're incredible table fare and put up a tremendous fight in deep water.
Time to Book Your Spot

Whether you're an experienced offshore angler or someone ready to step up from inshore fishing, this trip delivers the goods.
